Oregon's experiment into the decriminalization of hard drugs has not resulted in improved drug addiction statistics. The hope was that removing the stigma of drug abuse would result in more drug addicts finding the help they need. Unfortunately removing the stigma of drug abuse appears to have lead to increase drug use.

Now Oregon has had no choice but to role back their decriminalization and once again have police arrest people for personal possession of drugs.

Proponents of decriminalization believe the failing results from Oregon's experiment is due to not allowing enough time for the policies to work.

Oregon lawmakers pass bill to recriminalize drug possession

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A bill recriminalizing the possession of small amounts of drugs was passed by the Oregon Legislature on Friday, undoing a key part of the state’s first-in-the-nation drug decriminalization law as governments struggle to respond to the deadliest overdose crisis in U.S. history.

The state Senate approved House Bill 4002 in a 21-8 vote after the House passed it 51-7 on Thursday. The bill now heads to the desk of Gov. Tina Kotek, who said in January that she is open to signing a bill that would roll back decriminalization, Oregon Public Broadcasting reported.

Decriminalization of personal-use amounts of drugs, OK’d by voters in 2020 under Ballot Measure 110, was supposed to move hundreds of millions of dollars of marijuana tax revenues into drug treatment and harm reduction programs. That didn’t translate into an improved care network for a state with the second-highest rate of substance use disorder in the nation and ranked 50th for access to treatment, according to an audit report released in 2023.

I think the first requiremant to becoming a politician is a total lack of any common sense. The second requirement is being will to sell your mothers soul for personal gain. The third requirement looks to be a total commitment to leaving the world far worse off than when you entered politics.

So, do you think after this, they will rethink other policies? Like open borders and the progressive sterilization team (Trans rights)?

Neither do i.

that right there was some serious dumb ass woke thinking right there.

if going to jail, wind up paying lot's of money in fines or risk going back to jail, not being able to find decent work because of drug use was illegal and arrests, or dying, didn't deter them from becoming a junkie. being able to to do it legally damn sure wasn't going to change a damn thing.

Somebody needs to start investigating the "profit motives" and "who benefits" from both scenarios. 👋

So the stupid politicians thought they could do their own brand of woke, without changing other important things to accommodate those changes, like Detox centers that don't cost $10,000 up front to participate in. A pack of fools.

It's going to cost a LOT OF MONEY (i.e. TAX DOLLARS) to fix that!
