An aquarium and shark lab in Hendersonville is expecting a miracle birth any day -- with some exciting new additions.

The Aquarium and Shark Lab by Team ECCO in downtown Hendersonville has an expectant stingray named Charlotte.

but wait:

The second possible explanation for Charlotte's pregnancy is more in the "Jurassic Park" arena, according to the aquarium's founder: Charlotte could have mated with one of the young sharks that was added to the tank in July.

So this isn't sharks with frickin laser beams, but it's not too far off. A shark mating with a stingray. Sadly, we didn't see the pictures, so there is no way to tell how hot the stingray was, but there may be some strange science coming in the very near future. Shark and Stingray (or skate) taste about the same and have similar texture, so the culinary aspect of this is a bust. But will we see a new apex predator emerge? A stingray with rows of sharp teeth? Or perhaps a shark with a harpoon at it's tail. Or perhaps it's just how the second coming will take place.

Place your bets, it won't take too long to find out.

Yeah, I read this yesterday. Thought it was really wild. Wonder what the pups will look like and who they will take after.

the shark is a little homely, so let's hope it's the ray.

Akin to crossing a donkey and a horse, a mule
I expect no live young will be born, but hey maybe
Doubt it will be able to breed

i saw something about this on the fox weather site. in it they say sharks and rays mating has been documented before.
but damn if i can find anything on it. the link they have for reverts back to a headline page of their with nothing about past documented cases. searches just show articles on this or for just sharks or rays.

sharks and rays are in the subclass Elasmobranchii

here is the fox link,

Researchers said sharks and stingrays are closely related, and cross-breeding has been documented.

Striking evolution if it does end up turning into that or this:

BUT! Can anyone explain the evolution of the hammerhead shark?

Like which creature gave this shark the hammer look?

I thought we didn't see the pictures, so how do you know? And how the heck are you judging how attractive these animals are? 😳

So that's where my Test Subject #57 ended up when it escaped. Huh.

Thank God they haven't found the Crocodile I bred with that Ostrich yet.

Parthenogenesis is my bet. They'll be clones of the mother.

Several shark species do it, like zebra sharks.

They didn't mention this that I saw, but in my opinion they should also mention the possibility that their female stingray may actually be a hermaphrodite, with both male and female parts.

Here is an article with that potentiality in mind:

aiep.pensoft.net...

I think self fertilization by a hermaphrodite would be more likely than a cross-species fertilization, but who knows?

Time will tell

Nice find!

Ostrodile. Crocostrich was a separate project involving the utilisation of genetically engineered micro-crocodiles for medical amputations. Unfortunately the medical ethics board wasn’t ready for such a radical new direction, neither was the FBI.
