I've used Pinterest for several years to get and save craft ideas, mostly quilt and painting pictures.

Yesterday I got a notice that they removed one of my pins for 'violating their standards' because it contained adult content. They included a link so I could view the offending post.

Well, it was a picture of a quilt made from ties. That's it; a picture of a quilt!

This morning I got another notice from Pinterest; it appears somebody caught their 'error', but it's the threatening tone that accompanied their notice that got me.

"Hi Nugget,
Recently, we removed one of your Pins for violation of our guidelines on adult content. After a review of our decision, we've decided to reinstate your Pin, but please take some time to go through your Pins and remove any that may be in violation of our Community Guidelines.
These rules apply to all Pins, including ones on your secret boards. If we notice more Pins that conflict with our Community Guidelines, we may take additional action on your account."
Thanks,
The Pinterest Team

It has me wondering if this isn't a passive-aggressive way of letting me know 'they're watching me and have the power to pull my plug'.

FaceBook has been doing the same. I follow a couple of quilting sites and my family; that's about it. I seldom comment on anything; just browse. My grandson posts a lot of memes-some pretty politically charged, making fun of the current administration. I'll click the laughing emoji, and within hours the FB gestapo will inform me I've 'violated their community standards against hate speech, bullying, violence and harrassment' with my post-and if I continue to 'violate' I may be post banned (FB jail) or my account could be deleted. These are for posts I never even commented on! Is the day coming where a smile could get you ostracized from society?

It appears FB wants to stop everybody from commenting on any subject that goes against the current agenda. Suckerberg sold his soul for wealth and all the power that money can buy. TPTB have a plan, and all you need to be included in their group is enormous wealth sans a soul, integrity, empathy and common decency.

At this point I'm wondering if freedom of speech will become nothing more than a legend we'll pass down to future generations who'll determine it's nothing more than folklore.

Well, everyone knows quilting is a gateway activity to more serious criminality.

Comply before the DOJ comes knocking. Quilt block porn is a scourge.

I never looked at it that way before! I think I shall refrain from smiling lest I end up residing in the Gulag!

That's an interesting experience. I don't use Pinterest but I do Facebook and haven't noticed any thing different there. Then again, I rarely comment or like other posts.

It really shouldn't be any surprise that these outlets become ever more willing to censor anything that contradicts the Government Party line. This really isn't a "free" country anymore and the ruling class is increasingly authoritarian.

It's only going to get worse.

I fear you are right. When congress called Suckerberg in he immediately changed his entire platform to an authoritan one. Ticked my hubby off enough to delete his account and find another site; he settled on MeWe.

I've tried Mewe, but it takes forever for the site to load and I don't care much for the way it's arranged. The big kicker for me is ALL of the quilt and sewing threads are constantly bombarded with the most disgusting, vile pornographic pictures one could imagine.

I try to be a good citizen now and never click the like button on any FB posts, lest they take my firstborn from me.

That's weird because I post extremely politically charged memes on Facebook sometimes and I have never had any issues.

Peace

Pro Woke-Quilter tip:
NEVER use the term "Crazy" quilt on Pinterest.
The proper term is "Mentally-challenged" quilt.

You didn't say please.

Here's the picture of the necktie quilt I saved in case I should ever collect enough ties to make one-not my quilt. I'm not sure why they considered it offensive adult content; I've seen far uglier quilts that didn't offend me.

I think I'm on their radar. I called a guy a moron years ago; he must have reported me for using a false name-which FB 'dosen't allow'.
FB decided to take my name (Nugget) away from me unless I could prove I was known by that name IRL.
I provided name badges from work and even mail sent to Nugget; all the 'proof' they said was acceptable. Then they decided they would only accept a drivers license or other picture ID AND a birth certificate.

I ended up having to change my name in order to get my account back.
I usually spell Suckerberg with a capital 'F' now.

I think I'd better go to Pinterest and change the name on some of the quilt pictures I've saved.
Pinterest reminds me of working in a factory or business where they alway try to keep at least two write-ups in your chart, since it only takes three for them to legally fire you. Nit-picky things, like writing you up for still in the process of tying your apron when the starting buzzer sounded.

That is probably considered some how toxically masculine, or non inclusive clothing. My guess there's some wokedness behind it.

Never liked Pinterest. The wife can make some great lasagna and other foods, but started to take pinterest recipes and we wound up throwing half of those things in the trash. They were over influenced by food chemistry that attracts people and makes them slightly addicted....they are junk food chemistry because of too much umammi chemistry or spices that dope a person up and make them dumbed down. We have so many good recipes for great tasting food, and she goes and gets recipes that junk food addicts praise.

She is banned from getting recipes from pinterest now.

She does get some ideas for knitting there, but she belongs to a half a dozen knitting groups that share patterns and stuff and there are way more good ideas there.

That is so offending to me. I don't even own a tie anymore, I have not worn one for forty years or more. It makes me feel inferior because I do not own any ties. Just because I choose to hate having a noose around my neck.

I cannot figure out why anyone would think that was offensive.
