One year ago today

As I have been on ATS for many years, I have shared something a bit personal. Over the last few years, I have struggled with alcohol addiction. I lived/partied like a rock star...I am a stagehand/audio/electrics guy, it is always around.

A year ago today, I checked myself into detox. After 5 days, I was out of the hospital.

It has been a year since I have had a drink! To most, you will not understand just what a miracle that is.

I know some on here struggle with it also. I say to you, as hard as it was in the beginning, it is worth it. DM me if you need advice or help...I will do my best to help you.

Good for you.

I wasn't what some consider an alcoholic. But there were times that I felt a little to comfortable drinking.

I just quit.

Mornings are easier. Before sunrise and the air is crisp.

Sleeping is easier. No more cranking the air conditioner down to 65°F because I'm over heated from drinking.

No more nausea vomiting at 7am.

Life feels better all around. Air seems cleaner, watar taste better, food taste better, and life is easier to focus on.

Moods don't swing as much.

I'm very happy for you.

I haven't counted, but it will be 4 years and a Pirates baseball game in July at 95°F and high humidity.

Friend, all 😊👍! I honestly was going to ask your story....I've been in many musicals in my youth....and have been a famous guitarist in the day....but you told your story here. Thank you.

Good news. Its hard when that type of environment is your way of life. I too have been around musicians most of my life but one thing well, actually two things kept me clean. 1. fear 2. NO CRAVING

Remember it is the CRAVING that one must fight. Once the craving no longer exist, then you really won the battle.
Keep also the state of FEAR, that is a good antidote for you.

It may be one year since you had a drink but more importantly it has been one year since you reprioritised your inner voices.

Make sure you hold on tight to voice dominating the stage of late.

I struggled a little with drink in my twenties, reduced it to one night a week and feel all the better for it.

Congratulations on finding the inner discipline so necessary to allow yourself to keep on the wagon!
