Sad news. I liked him as an actor.
My favourite film of his is now a bit of a cult film called Altered States.

The first movie that jumps into my mind when I think of him is Mr. Brooks.
He's Kevin Costner's imaginary friend.(kinda)

I was just thinking about the Big Chill yesterday, always liked that movie.

71 isn't even old for natural causes IMHO.

RIP Mr. Hurt!!!!

Strange, I was thinking of him in A.I. a couple of days ago. I don't usually think of William Hurt out of the blue.

R.I.P.

Edit: here's another cute little flick that he was in that sticks out the most to me.

'natural causes' made me go hmmmm as well.
Think we are going to be hearing a lot more of that phrase as we move forwards.

You may have already looked it up, but if not...

I wouldn't really considered any of the following to be a spoiler, because you find it out early into the movie, but it is a little bit of info about the movie, so read at your own risk...

This is the short description from IMDB: "A well-respected businessman is sometimes controlled by his murder and mayhem-loving alter ego."

Basically, Hurt is Costner's alter-ego who talks him into & assists him while killing random people.
(IMDB) Mr. Brooks [2007]

They spend more time talking about it & planning it out than doing it, but if you don't like the thought of them killing people for no reason, then it might not be something you'd like.

(Just figured I'd give that little warning for anyone who may read this.)

Yes, I liked him as an actor too! That Altered States movie was quite profound for me.

Four months ago, he penned this commentary about the journey from 9/11 to being the artistic advisor and executive director for the documentary The Unspeakable. Film is at the link. (R.I.P. William Hurt)

Thank you for the link. I will watch that documentary, I'd never heard of it....I don't think. I'll know when I watch it, as I watched a lot of documentaries about 9/11.
