Google ordered to remove anti-Islamic film from YouTube

Just saw this.

I'm not sure what to say about it. I just read it and go mmmm..
What do you all think?? Is this sort of thing just just to please a certain group?? (the ruling)
Do the powers that be get involved in these things and control the outcome??

A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday ordered Google Inc to remove from its YouTube video-sharing website an anti-Islamic film that had sparked protests across the Muslim world.

The controversial film, billed as a film trailer, depicted the Prophet Mohammed as a fool and a sexual deviant. It sparked a torrent of anti-American unrest among Muslims in Egypt, Libya and other countries in 2012.

Won't be long before we're seeing Orwellian charges like "publication of materials that could cause public unrest" or "‘using speech that could cause people anxiety, distress, alarm or insult."

Remember, the ACLU and Amnesty International are all about defending liberty for all until they arent and more and more often they arent.

Speaking of Amnesty Int.:

Governments have an obligation to prohibit hate speech and incitement. And restrictions can also be justified if they protect specific public interest or the rights and reputations of others.

Forgive me if this comes across as a prejudice statement...

Why is it only Islam that gets pissed about videos that are anti-islamic?

You never hear of videos that are anti-budist, anti-chistian, anti-catholic, anti-atheist, Anti-pegan being forced off youtube..

If an anti-islamic video must be removed then EVERY Anti-religious video must go.

It all comes back to freedom of speach.. If countries dont alow it then they should block youtube... Didnt the Uk ban/block porn?

I was just pondering on this and thought could this be linked to all those new laws that are trying to get passed at the state level? you know those laws that state if you have deeply held religious beliefs that you can openly refuse service to some one if your religion says so... ie the new segregation laws pertaining mostly to gay people in certain states.us

I guess to answer your question it's the Muslims that riot and blow things up when they get pissed. When was the last time you heard of a Buddhist or Hindu suicide bomber?

Not saying it's right or that I agree with the decision but it is what it is.

Telling me what I can or cannot say online based on the laws of China or North Korea just places the entire globe under the same totalitarianism.

Im pretty sure that music videos and social media are un Islamic anyhow, to the most stringent followers of Islam, so why are they watching them ?

they do like to punish themselves dont they, is it a form of martyrdom to troll the internet searching for things that they find offensive or is it that they just like being a royal pain in the A$$

Google had refused to remove the film from YouTube, despite pressure from the White House and others, though it blocked the trailer in Egypt, Libya and certain other countries.

Ok, that's something. I guess. But, it still went to court and cost $$$$ and I keep thinking, where do you draw the line?? You know what I mean?

The plaintiff, Cindy Lee Garcia, had objected to the film after learning that it incorporated a clip she had made for a different movie, which had been partially dubbed and in which she appeared to be asking: "Is your Mohammed a child molester?"

Garcia had claimed that her performance within the film was independently copyrightable and that she retained an interest in that copyright. A lower court had refused her request that Google remove the film from YouTube.

But in Wednesday's decision, 9th Circuit Chief Judge Alex Kozinski said Garcia was likely to prevail on her copyright claim and having already faced "serious threats against her life," faced irreparable harm absent an injunction.

He called it a rare and troubling case, given how Garcia had been duped. "It's disappointing, though perhaps not surprising, that Garcia needed to sue in order to protect herself and her rights," he wrote.

So it was actually initiated by an actress who was getting death threats.

just so you know other countries can and do control what content is assessable in their country, one that come to mind real quick is china. and i know that it rumored that egypt has censored content to their country.

if they don't like block it. why should U.S. citizens that might be interested in the video, not have access to it in their own country , because other countries don't like it.

you don't see other countries bending over backward for the U.S. do you.

Youtube is that big huh? They must have a hard time with maintenance what with all those servers all scattered about the world.

The truth is, the severs are in the U.S. and anything they contain falls within the first amendment. Besides that, who cares about a video? Do I go searching for videos on Youtube that will offend my beliefs then demand they be removed? No, I don't. That's stupid.

People just need to quit whining about crap like this because it "offends" them. To those, I'd say boo freakin' hoo, there's much worse things in life. Come back when you have a real problem.

So will they remove this?

This is the problem with the majority of Islam. "Do as we say OR ELSE!". They migrate to get away from an oppressive government only to equally oppress the people within the country they migrate to.

It starts with trivial things, like forcing a country (mine) to remove piggy banks from the banks as it's deemed "offensive". Then it starts to get a little bigger. People are killed for drawing cartoons, and eventually places like Youtube have to remove certain videos since it "offends".

I can't wait to see what Europe is like in the next 20 years. It'll be a hell hole, I'm certain of that.
