Just saw this on C2C website

www.coasttocoastam.com.../Los-Angeles-Midday-Sighting

Says its shot with a Canon 7D, any chance we can get the raw image files mate? Yes Im sure phage has already calculated its nominal vector and concluded its a mylar weather drone kite but lets take a look at the raw files just in case..

Looks like tubular plastic with ends sealed and helium inserted.
Formed into a triangle.

It changes shape like a grocery bag in the wind.

What do i know, maybe its an energy life form.

As it flew, apparently, it became a fireball, then transformed into a more aerodynamic shape.

It became a fireball.....more like it flew in front of the sun, changed shape because of prevailing winds.

Looks like a mylar solar balloon to me.

It was flying lower than a plane would and made no sound. Slowly and deliberately it drifted north and was soon it was out of camera range

Just like a balloon would.

I don't see any shape changing , what i do see is just rotation in the wind. Doesn't take a mastermind to realize a rotating form looks different when viewed in 2d.

Wow, if you have a 7D surely you can afford a better lens. What a wast of an awesome camera.

Either way, on topic now.

Great photos and good find.

Looks like we have several votes for "balloon". I guess that's really the only applicable prosaic explanation for these photos. On the other hand, it could be something totally unknown and in that case no one could really tell the difference. Very odd shape for a balloon imo.

Oh and another thing.

7D camera has HD video recording capabilities. VERY GOOD HD recording facilities.

Annoys me when people have such a good opportunity to really grab something amazing.

The only reason you wouldn't be able to record in HD would be that the SD card being used was not fast enough for the video recording.

It all depends on what card you use. It's a compatibility issue. It's the card itself. A $5 card will not be fast enough to hold the video recording to a high standard.

I shoot with a 7D, and it only has the Compact Flash....no SD.

Okay, so you can't find a photo of a balloon that exactly matches the one from C2C. I guess that means these are photos of an alien space ship. Yippee.
