Man plotted to kill and eat children, feds say

His home in Worcester was searched last year and authorities found tens of thousands of computer images and videos of child pornography, 4,500 exchanges of child pornography between Portway and the people he chatted with online. The images included children being cooked and prepared to be eaten, court documents said. Authorities also found a locked basement, court documents show, that contained a child-sized coffin, a steel cage, a steel topped table, two freezers, disposable scalpels, butchering kits and castration tools. Online chats, seized by police, showed Portway call his basement a “dungeon” where he intended to “keep kidnapped children while he sexually abused them and as a place to eventually murder and cannibalize the children.”

I figured this was post worthy. This man is a monster to say the least and thankfully he never got to act on his urges. However this touches upon a slippery slope.

The judge is insinuating more time in prison for the crimes he has not yet committed but without a shadow of a doubt was planning on committing.

On one hand the only thing he is really guilty of is possessing child pornography... However the contents of his basement alongside an active plot to kidnap, torture, rape and then eat children.

Personally I believe he should be taken out back and shot.... however do you think his sentence should be extended because of crimes he hasn't committed yet?

One scumbag less in this world would do me just fine. But more disturbing to me is who is responsible for the images on his computer.
That is who they need to focus on.
Be thankful they caught this one before he did anything.
Child pornography, is horrible but not a new thing...but if there are those out there cooking and eating children after the fact, this is a whole new level of evil that I'd rather not share my oxygen with.

I can't find the right words to say what I think about this. But suffice it to say, it is absolutely disgusting.

What makes people like this? He's not the only sick pup like this. Wish a bad gene could be identified and found in these sub-humans and then ship them all off to an isolated island and let them kill each other.
In my little world, that's what I'd like to see done.
Actually, what I'd really like to see done to these sickos I'd better just keep to myself.

And people wonder if evil is real ? I really do wonder if he had been a childhood psychotropic drug prescribed child who grew up and forgot to take his meds? Either way, how does society produce these dirt bags?

In many of the countries overseas where they are less sexually repressed I can not remember ever hearing of something like this.... Does not mean 'necessarily' that it does not happen, but if it does, myself nor my wife has heard of it.

I say LIFE imprisonment. And possibly castration.

I honestly thought I had seen the limits of man's depravity. The world is a little darker having read this. What can be so wrong with a person's mind that this even enters into their thoughts?

As far as punishment is concerned, he will forever be e threat to society. Some mental illnesses cannot be corrected. I can only hope that this man is never released and that whoever made the videos on his computer is found...........

Let him suffer the ills of being a child abuser in prison where true justice will be had, daily, for as long as the prisoners let him live.

Its as simple as that.

What baffles my mind is how someone so sick can approach a fellow human being to discuss plans like this, and for the fellow human being to go along with it. Im glad someone went to the authorities in the end.

You don't leave a ticking bomb alone just because it hasn't exploded yet. You disable it before it explodes.

No I disagree, they would kill him in minutes, thats not punishment at all.
If you ask me, if he wants to eat human flesh so badly, Id feed him his penis.

They should trace where the others are as well via the communication that took place with them online and seize their computers and put them on trial. I have very few words left to describe this horrific story. It's a bad thing when something shocks you, mainly because things rarely put me in a state of disbelief nowadays in this world. Thankfully they caught the beast before he was able to act out ANY thing. . . Tch, down right vile, lousy pile of flesh indeed.

So he was a homosexual pedophile.

Hmmmmmm...interesting. I've heard that's never the case.

Anyway, I agree he should be put away for a long time on the child porn charges. Considering the intent he demonstrated to do much worse things (provided intent can be proven in court) he should be given the MAX on the charges he is convicted of! There should be no mercy shown to child predators IMO.

On the contrary, I think they'd try not to kill him. Eventually, he will die from abuse at the hands of the prisoners but I do think they will show enough control to keep him around for a while. He'll make the perfect "toy" for them.

Even if he were given some form of protection, such as solitary or a protective wing, you can be sure that the guards will have their backs turned at some point, and some horrible acts will befall him.

While I tend to agree in this instance, we must recognize this is a slippery slope. Do we begin convicting people or giving harsher sentences based on what they MIGHT do or what WE think they INTEND to do in the future?

Isn’t that worse than the “profiling” so many here on ATS cry about daily?

I agree, but there is one thing that really troubles me about the whole paedophile thing.

It has completely changed the way I act. Im so scared of ever being labelled a paedophile I will not help a lost child in distress for fear of being blamed for something foul. I wont smile at a child for fear of being labelled, I dare not hug or comfort a child that needs some love for fear of being labelled.
And being a truth seeker, my biggest worry is being labelled a paedophile. Its a tag I dont think I could live with. Did you see the story of the hacker in Canada being called a paedophile? Worrying times indeed.
Im disgusted that I have to feel that way, and Im also disgusted that many of the people that partake in sexual activity with children are in government and royal families, and they are beyond reproach.
Just have a look at Jimmy Savilles friend list and you will see what I mean.

Exactly, isn't that very peculiar? I find that ridiculous so I as well don't even bother. I've seen that happen in shopping malls where someone thinks a child is lost and the mother of the child rushes out of no where and grabs the child as if the person was trying to kidnap them or something.
Then when something does happen to their child they are quick to cry "Why didn't anyone help my child?!"
It's a double-ended sword.

So there's like some cannibal ring out there sharing dinner photos over the internet?

I honestly thought I had seen everything and extreme events like this were just relegated to the nether-regions of imagination but I guess I was wrong.

Whatever resources that are going into arresting folks leering at the Coppertone kid should be focused 100% on the cannibal ring.

they could always let him go free and let the laws of the jungle have their way.....now that ppl know who he is...and since he'll probly have to register as a sex offender.....hes easily trackable.

When I read about this guy on the front page of the newspapers here in the UK a few day's ago I felt sickened and angry at a mind of such absolute depravity even existing, there is only one applicable cure (good old fashioned hanging) and you have to ask yourself as he has gone to so much trouble could he already have done something like this elsewhere.

It bothers me that peodophiles are allowed back into society when they pose a constant threat to the most vulnerable members of society and those being our children, should it not be more prefarable that they should under mental health law's as this is the case be incarcerated for life at the very least as this seem's common sense to me.
