I thought that idea was flown already and Assad said "No way!"

But that was before the Sarin attacks, so he might be more amendable now.

Lets see if we hear in our MSM about the offer Iran, Syria, and Russia have in the works. My guess is they will put a spin on it. Thus far it seems Assad is cooperative with the proposals since it came from his own speaker. We will know more soon from one media source or the another (thank goodness we have the Internet and more than just US media). If our government dismisses the proposal and refuse to even negotiate then they expose themselves for what they really are. What Kerry isn't saying is that it was Assad's own administration who said they would send chemical weapons to Russia. I really hate how they leave those little details out.

This is just how geopolitics are done. One country will threaten, the other country will respond. An ally will offer a way out for both sides, and usually it is taken. The best known case was the blockade of Cuba, where the US was willing to go to war with both Cuba and the Soviet Union. The US made the case and point, willing to go to war over something and now Russia is offering a way out. We can only hope that the USA takes the offer on the table.

I think it might give them some real credibility as to being transparent ..At the least it would show that they are willing to talk with some of the upper management in world affairs ...Funny how China is not being heard ,or if they are its a very quiet voice ...peace

Well played Putin.

He knows this is nothing to do with chemical weapons, so is pushing Obama to show this to the world.

It's draughts players against chess players once again (or checkers for you trans-Atlantic types).

The ball is in Syria's court now. I wonder if Assad has enough sense to go ahead and let them take his chems away. How does he know if he gives them up then they will not just bomb him anyway.. There would have to be a
contract written up and I would force Syria to sign the international ban on chemical weapons treaty.. This is a
good comprise..

Also Assad should give up who ever let that chemical weapon attack happen without his consent. They should be given over to the international court, even if it is his brother.. Be stern with them, no need to start dropping bombs.. Lets hope Obama the destroyer doesn't let his hubris and arrogance get in the way.

I think its great if they turn over the chemical weapons. I know no one seems to possibly believe Assad used them already, but what if he did? Isn't this the same thing if you straight up murdered someone shooting them in the head then accepted an offer to hand over the gun so you won't shoot anyone else.

Great news...more time for the SAA to wipe out the rebels .... and less reason for USA to intervene...this is a big win for Russia and Syria

Months ago Russians were warning about nuclear war if the US attacked Syria. They were not talking about nuclear war between Russia and the US. They were talking about nuclear war between Syria and the US. Syria has a nuclear weapons program. When Saddam Hussein's reactor was blown up by the Israels in the 1980s, the plutonium route to a bomb was shut down. He had to divert all his resources to a uranium program, atomic vapor isotope separation, centrifuges, etc. North Korea has been helping Syria with their nuclear program for some time. The Israelis bombed the Syrian reactor that the North Koreans were helping them build in 2007. It's been 6 years since they were cut off from the plutonium route. North Korea's main export is military weapons, mostly missiles. The main reason that North Korea would produce nuclear weapons is so that they can sell them to their allies. In the recent interview Assad said that he opposed the use of weapons of mass destruction whether they be chemical or nuclear. He skipped over biological because those are the weapons that he doesn't have. What he was saying is that he is opposed to using his chemical and nuclear weapons. Now Russia is proposing that the United Nations take control of Syria's chemical weapons to diffuse the crisis. Syria has shown willingness to do this. This makes no sense if chemical weapons are the only weapons of mass destruction that they possess. The threat of chemical weapons use is the only thing that stops the US from invading Syria. Assad can give up his chemical weapons because he still would have nuclear weapons. The moment Syria gives up all their chemical weapons and it seems that the US is safe from any WMDs, America will manufacture a reason to invade with ground troops. It is at this point that Assad would have to test a bomb to show his deterrent.
