With all the World War 3 non sense going on with US, France and Syria and Co. - I thought this would release some steam

ESQUIMALT, B.C.
— Two Canadian warships are returning to port in Esquimalt, B.C. after colliding during manoeuvres while en route to Hawaii.
No one was hurt, but a Defence Department statement says HMCS Algonquin sustained significant damage to her port side hangar while HMCS Protecteur sustained damage of a lesser degree to her bow.
The statement says the ships were conducting towing exercises, which require close-quarters manoeuvring, when the collision occurred late Friday morning.

The Canadians are a mockery in the realm of war
I like how they describe both vessels as "her" lol!

If Obama and France decide to strike Syria, we have the non threatening Canadian military to go overseas and 'peacekeep'

All in all though; I really hope Obama grows up, and leaves Syria alone. Its a shame that the elite militaries of the world are so hot headed, and handle situations with an ego-child mentality. Real men talk things out, they dont need to 'flex' (metaphor) to show who has more guns.. They dont need to murder hundreds, or thousands to prove a point.

Let us pray that the tension resolves, and the Canadian naval force learn to steer war-ships

This is a supposed transcript of a radio conversation between a US Naval ship and Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland. I understand that there's actually a full transcript of this conversation lurking about somewhere. If anyone has is, send it to me!

US SHIP: Please divert your course 0.5 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

CANADIAN REPLY: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

US SHIP: This is the Captain of the US Navy Ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

CANADIAN REPLY: No, I say again, divert YOUR course!

US SHIP: THIS IS THE USS MISSOURI. WE ARE A LARGE BATTLESHIP OF THE US NAVY. DIVERT YOUR COURSE NOW OR WE WILL TAKE APPROPRIATE AND DRASTIC MEASURES!!!!

CANADIAN REPLY: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

Ships are always referred to as her as Ship/boat as its a feminine form in some languages.
The USA calls their ships she, as do we, the Brits.

What an ignorant post.

Lets pray you never become anything more than an arm chair warrior. Instead of making pointless comments, why not offer something productive.

The ships were performing toeing manoeuvres, which requires them to operate well within normal operational ranges. One small miss communication and accidents can happen. I would rather two Canadian ships collide with no casualties than one American missile miss target and kill civilians.

I salute you mighty naval commander.

Russian warships are always "he", the West all use "she". It's an interesting dichotomy.

Hmm. Nope, going to leave that one alone.

M'eh. Accidents happen. Better to iron them out in exercises than combat.

You sir, are something that I can't say because you are a Mod.

At least they're both able to make it back to port in one piece, unlike some others that have happened over the years.

Best news of this thread. And yes.. it sounds like they are out of practice in maneuvering their ships. That is probably a good peace-time problem to have...

Geez, yeah...us Canadians are NOT warmongers...but we ARE known for being extremely polite!

So 'thank you' OP, for taking the time to make a thread about our little accident.
