Maybe if people respected the law over here that states that hijab and burkas not be worn in public areas, sad events like this would not happen

I don't know who gave you the stars , but I do believe that law should be implemented by govt , not by every single fanatic angry empty head human being.

There is law and there is a protector of law.

After all, when a non Muslim goes to a muslim country he/she has to respect the law too no?

yes.

So does the about hijabs also apply to other folks who also wear a head covering?

Hindu women...

Sikh women...

Jewish women...

Or do values like "freedom" and "equality" stop applying when it comes to Muslim women?

Skorpion,

Sadly the law is only for Muslim ladies,

I simply stated what the law says here over in France and not my own opinion, apart from this which i quote from my post : (After all, when a non Muslim goes to a muslim country he/she has to respect the law too no?)

Personally myself as a non believer i think that fairness and much tolerance should be the words of the day... If countries wish to ban one type of clothing which shows religious beliefs, then they should ban ALL types of clothing displaying religious beliefs...

Just another example that you seem to have omitted from your extremely pertinent post... NUNS... no-one talks about nuns do they... (what do they wear on their head?)

And i wont go into the conversation about Kippas!

"freedom" and "equality"... as well as tolerance exist but is sadly... and it is DEEPLY disturbing to observe that a great majority of people on this planet do not understand or try to understand the meaning of these words!

Kindest respects

Rodinus

Thanks for posting this, it's good to know I still get outraged at a Muslim being attacked for no apparent reason.

Thanks for your reply ,too.

And it is good to know that fair people exist on this planet as greed and war is expanding.

I think it is a principle in all religions to say "like for others whatever you like for yourself"

I don't know who starred me either mideast and to be quite honest i'm not here for the stars!

What incited me to post on your thread was the saddening story of a woman being beaten up and losing her child...

However i have just one thing to say :

Each country has its laws.. they should be respected, if those laws are not respected then the justice system of that country will do the job that the taxpayers pay them to do.

Justice should not be handed out by fanatics and militants... whatever their beliefs!

Kindest respects

You are right, ME. I admit that I do fear islam.

And I admit that I fear you.

I fear to see a nation being played to be convinced to attack and invade a country because the govt has proven.

I fear the people who don't ask their govt why there are many flaws in these events.

I fear the nation who don't ask their govt why it used nuclear bombs or agent orange.

I fear the nation who don't ask their govt . "where were WMDs ?"

And I fear the extremists who are supported by western governments.

++ I do believe that there are lazy empty head people in every nation , but the different is their condition. They do the stupidest thing. Some are born in slums of Iraq thinking about selling their baby to extremists , others may live in New york drinking orange juice and leaving comment on ATS like extremists. (kidding)

ETA : I believe that ATS is one of the places which I can find some people who I don't fear.

Does Press TV cover this in Iran??

PTV is English speaking TV. We speak Farsi. Not all Iranian people know Farsi

+ I believe that Press TV is not well supported like western media to cover all the news.

+ I have heard that it is going to be banned.

You come here onto a site run by Westerners ... that comes out of the West ... and is occupied mostly by Westerners ... and you think nearly all of us are not decent human beings?
Next time someone posts that most Muslims are 'not decent' (or something like that) .. you can't complain about it or get upset with them. Your thoughts are a mirror image of theirs.

It's more of a patriarchal means of oppressing and protecting women under the guise of religion. Basically it's believed that women will tempt men into cheating on their wives, so they should cover themselves up in public. Retarded, oppressive, and typical of religion.

They even go as far as to ban female singers from radio play and sales because they fear men will be "aroused" by their voice.

This would be the equivalent of beating a Christian woman for wearing a cross necklace, or beating a Jewish man for wearing Kippah. How people can justify this is beyond me. It's a hate crime.

These Nazis are few but are made big by racist politicians. France has yet along road to go before they can provide a safe society for everyone to live in. I pray to Allah to keep me alive til the day I see France become an Islamic state. What a peaceful day in will indeed be.

It doesn't matter how much a human hates another, the problem cannot be solved with aggressive violence. Are we animals who can't have debates? Why are most people in debates but yet some decide to go violent? We teach everyone that it's best to talk and not hit. Yet still some decides to not listen.

The problem with the burqa will not disappear by removing the burqa, this will only encourage the Nazis to push for yet a bigger agenda. We will not be quiet to the oppression they force people under. I've lived in Sweden for 13 years and never have I seen a Swedish citizen (non-Muslim) hit a woman with burqa and even killing her unborn child. This is a massive crime, for Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

They are a minority and they should be dealt with according to their crimes. Everyone wants justice and it's what they should get. They killed a child, destroyed a woman's honor and angered a lot of people.

We shouldn't stand up to people who discriminate others and disturb the calm in society.

Oh gosh .. don't tempt me ...

An 'Islamic state'?? As in Sharia law? Sharia law isn't peaceful. It isn't fair. It isn't wanted. It's backwards. And it forces people to live according to religious rules that they don't believe in AND that are absurd. The ONLY rule of law that is fair is SECULAR RULE OF LAW. That way no one is forced to obey ignorant and archaic religious rules that they don't believe and that were written thousands of years ago.

This is the year 2013. Don't try to drag us backwards to the year 650.

I think this kind of thuggery is absolutely unacceptable.

No matter what people feel politically, that is never a reason to randomly attack and hurt innocent people.

What group will they target next?
These groups usually have entire lists of people they don't like, including local groups.

Imagine being a woman - somebody's daughter or wife - and leaving home and then just being assaulted and losing a baby!
Maybe she was a legal French-speaking citizen who happened to be Muslim.
It is heartbreaking.

On that note however, I find it strange that xenophobic violence in SA is often ignored.
It's been sustained and on-going since the major outbreak in 2008.
I don't know how many Somalians and others have been killed by now.

The state and the liberal press down-play it as ordinary crime, although if the culprits were whites in Europe I'm sure this would all be called "fascist attacks".

Just yesterday 200 Somalian shopkeepers had their stores raided, and had to be escorted out of a local black township by police for their own safety.
www.iol.co.za...-thYpdg

I'd like to see equal coverage on xenophobia from the world press, because currently it seems that whites in Europe are seen as culprits, and violent racism committed by black Africans is ignored.

Considering that Uganda once expelled its entire Asian population of 40 000 people (to its economic detriment) African fascism should not be ignored, and the immigrants in South Africa who are hurt and brutalized have just as much of a right to live as the immigrants in Europe.

This is a horrible tragedy. I feel for this woman and her family, I can't imagine what she's going through.

Mideast, one of the reasons I'm so glad you are on ATS is that you can help us "Westerners" better understand your religion and your culture. There's no doubt in my mind that western media focuses on the radical minority in Islam, who are violent fanatics. It doesn't paint a true picture of Islam.

However, I do have personal problems with some of the teachings of Islam, especially concerning women. I feel the same about Christianity and its teachings.

What I think a lot of us fear is that sharia law allows for little personal freedom. I don't want someone dictating to me how I should dress, worship, etc. This is the main concern, I think.

In regards to the OP, in my opinion what this woman was subjected to was outrageous, and those responsible should be punished accordingly, although nothing will give this woman back the child she lost at their hands. There is absolutely no excuse for the actions of those who harmed her.

That being said....

I have found my way to a couple of forums populated with "islamaphobes" and anti-Islamic propaganda and one of their major talking point issues, is the claim that Islamics don't immigrate to non-Islamic countries because they want to partake of the freedoms and ideals of that country, but instead immigrate with the intention of overwhelming and overtaking the current governmental and citizen's ideals and inserting Islamic law in it's place. It is indeed a huge concern within these groups who spew and encourage hatred of Muslims.

Your post seems to indicate that at least for some, this indeed is the intent. This is an ideal that is not viewed with open arms and cheerful welcome in societies that value their rights and freedoms. In such countries the right of religious freedom, serves to protect the rights of Muslims in their countries, as banning a specific religion would be considered violation of human rights, but if your statement does reflect the ideals of the majority of Islamics, what allows them to enter the country and adhere to their religious beliefs without unreasonable restriction is a precept they intend to destroy.

Well, that is the issue. When Sharia comes in, that is their law and it supercedes the law of the land which is why you see them breaking the law.

The Hijab and Burqa are symbols of oppression and restriction for women!
We can't allow women to wear such things! This is the progressive part of the world, where we promote freedom! We must restrict them from wearing such things! We must ban them!

Am I the only one who sees the hilarious and ridiculous contradiction here?

(well, along with the contradiction of questioning PressTV's reliability and then providing links from atlasshrugged and frontpagemag, which aren't even news sites).

I'm not sure why people are trying to justify or defend or "I can see why he'd do that" this guy's actions. There is no justification.

The reason these attacks are becoming more common is because these vile peoples' viewpoints are becoming more mainstream. It is depressing how often the tired old cliche of "blame the immigrants" or "blame the outsiders" actually works.

PS: Some more links (from proper news sources instead of some blog) for those who still don't trust the veracity of PressTV in this case:

The west seems to have all kinds of freedoms... except the freedom for Muslim women to wear their headcoverings.

They seem to think that a headcovering automatically equals "restriction"... I wonder what they think of women in hoodies.
