DuckDuckGo Search Engine Gets Boost After PRISM Scandal

www.cnbc.com

DuckDuckGo, a search engine that claims it gives its users complete anonymity, has seen a 33 percent increase in users since the NSA news broke over a week ago, said founder and CEO Gabriel Weinberg on CNBC's Closing Bell Tuesday.
"We always knew people didn't want to be tracked, but what hadn't happened was reporting on the private alternatives and so it's no surprise that people are making a choice to switch to things that that will give them great results and also have real privacy,"

This is great. We need more freedom and anonymity on line. Anonymity helps preserve the fourth and fifth amendments. The regime cannot come after information that isn't there in the first place. Eventually, dear leader and the regime will either demand that they do store information or just shut them down. Until then, there are also other anonymous search engines.

This is an excellent search engine I have been using for a couple years now. If they don't collect information, they have nothing to turn over when asked. It also doesn't bottle or curtail advertisements to us, which I always found creepy. If you do a search we should both get the same results.

There are others like this out there, educate yourself and find them.

I wonder if there has been an increase in the tor network as well?

Curious users and lovers of freedom/anonymity would be wise to look into secure linux distros that come with pre installed tor services.

Assuming you believe them or the PTB do not apply a bit of leverage. How long before they are ordered to give it up.

Anyway, this just stops Google, for instance, from having the data.

TPTB will just create their own 'anonymous' search engine and record all the searches made on it. That's if they are not doing it already.

Or they will hook onto the network and split off all the searches before they reach the site. I think that's basically one of the ways prism tends to work anyway. At the end of the day if you are relying on an 'anonymous' search engine to stop anyone finding out what you are searching for you are just setting yourself up to fail.

Given its based in the USA they'll be able to pull what info they like with the secret FISA orders the same as anywhere else just there is less information so the NSA would have to do the work that google does itself in profiling its visitors

My thinking also. They have now placed them self on the radar.

People, your packets are intercepted even at a local ISP level.. You might want to take that into consideration before thinking that a ploy such as "anonymous" search engine is used without a papertrail... These are no more secure to NSA`s violations of the fifth amendment then google....

Until then, there are also other anonymous search engines. If you go to the other two links they say powered by goggle ..
ixquick.com...

startpage.com...

So would that defeat the purpose of using them ?

Yeah great. A safe place for pedophiles to go and search for child porn - with all their privacy rights intact.

You can't be serious?

You make a quantum leap from I want Privacy to equating that with Child Porn.

My God, you really are a prisoner in your own mind.

With regards as always...

Those engines are doing a google for your data so that your IP isn't at google. A bit like me going to the store for you. I am pretty sure the snooping is way past getting data from a site directly.

It is at the packet level outside of the sites. They know data headed for this duck place is most likely a google search target being made by the source IP, yours. It is not going to really hide searches.

Didnt you know that if you ever want to draw the shades in your home you're doing something illegal or harmful to your fellow man?

If you have nothing to hide you'd just live in the park in front of everyone.

Let passers by watch you pinch one off.

If you have nothing to hide.

No, I think its great. Pedophiles have rights too. They should be able to search for child porn in the privacy of their home. No one has the right to know what they are looking at. They are American citizens like the rest of us and the government has no right to try to monitor them.

If people are trying to hide information or keep activities secret then they will try to keep it away from Google. Google in not a requirement to get data off the internet. Google isn't how to find the worst of the worst.

Yes you are correct. The Constitution is designed to protect the worst type of scum.

You act like we have not been able to survive over 225 years without being spied on.

If they have a reason to suspect a pedophile. By all means, Get a Warrant.

The Government without a warrant has no legal right to monitor any Citizen.

Just when I thought we were coming to some agreement. You give my rights away again.

In 25 years of marriage...I haven't argued with my wife as much as I have with you...
