I am not a vet, but have PTSD
When I first came out of my house after a few years of isolating myself, I couldn't stop shaking, and felt like everyone was looking at me, and flipping a stick in the air over and over again actually was the only way I could find to make it stop. The mind loves to be distracted.
You need to find something to distract you. The simplest things worked for me. Find a stick or something small that you can toss up and catch. Do this over and over when you start to get anxious. The idea is to keep your brain concentrated on the object instead of on the anxiety. Maybe a small ball or anything you can throw up in the air and keep catching that won't roll away from you. No matter how edgy you get, just keep tossing it. Make a game out of it. It is all about keeping the mind busy until the feelings pass.
It sounds like you are going to have a great time with some great friends!edit on 17-6-2013 by Darkblade71 because: (no reason given)
