The “hacktivist” organization Anonymous says it knows the identities of at least two of the four boys involved in the alleged gang rape of Rehtaeh Parsons and are threatening to release their names and locations unless the RCMP charges them.

Full story

With so many people vowing vigilatism, is this a good idea that Anon outs these boys?

names
address

Is the NS justice minister going to step up? is the RCMP?

Anon is only one group out looking for info on these boys. Other groups will not be as patient, the authorities better step up and soon.

I am a bit torn on this one.

On one hand I can agree that justice needs to be served here, but I am not sure what is going to happen to these boys if Anon out their information.

They have now said they have all names and addresses, and have left it in the RCMP's hands.

I will bet one of these creeps names is kXXe.bXXXXXXXXe (name altered to protect the guilty) For now.
This little pos has already removed his FB profile image. He scared. He should be.

Say what you (general) want about vigilantism, but it WORKED in the Steubenville rape case.

Don't know why Anon has to "threaten" to "out the boys" involved. Why not just do it?

Yes, I think they need to be punished. Made into an example

In this sick world lacking justice of every kind and our governments lying to us every day...it almost seems that anon is all there is to right the wrongs and make things better.

These guys are done.

I agree, give the police 48 hours to arrest. Charge in Adult court.

Or

Out them.

The only body dispensing justice has to be the legal system of the country.

Frustrating as it can be at times.

Anything else may result in anarchy, mob rule, and mistakes being made.

Now wait- Anonymous are getting ridiculous.

-First, this isnt a WORLD issue. next, its barely a NATIONAL ISSUE (even for Canada)- And finally, based on my reading of the case (from what I remember) didnt this happen a LONG TIME AGO and she never went to the Poice? Or am I mixing something up here?

-Anyhow, what did SHE do? I was in High School and I saw some girls (and guys) get drunk, so some really regrettable things and for it to get all over the school- Anonymous needs to get involved in issues that matter (and no. This does not.)

While I agree that if they were truly involved in this heinous act, they should be brought to justice. However, the problem is... I don't KNOW they were involved. Who does? Only them, the victim, and God.

In order for there to be true justice, a process must take place in which a jury, informed with evidence, decides the fate of these two. What is NOT justice, and I could argue would be a kind of INjustice, would be vigilantism in which Anon drops their personal information, possibly putting them in a position where people will come after them with physical violence.

What happens if they give out the information, somebody takes justice into his own hands, and the two boys end up being innocent of the crime? What then?

It's not a good slope to find yourself on, because the only way is down, and down quickly, when you start thinking punishment can be dolled out because you THINK the person(s) are guilty.

Sarcasm on
The girl manipulated 4 drunk boys who were not in the right frame of mind to realize how dirty it is to have chain sex with her. Then afterwards she tried to put an end to any chance they would have normal lives by trying to blame them for her actions.
Sarcasm off

She went to the police within a few days, but as usual, unless your a drunk or a speeder, the Police are USELESS.

There was a date rape drug used allegedly, I think you may see more girls coming forwards in this little NS town

From CNN : The teen was bullied for more than a year after the alleged sexual assault, which happened in November 2011 when she was 15, her family said.
Authorities confirmed that a photograph allegedly showing Parsons having sex with one of the boys was circulated to friends' mobile phones and computers. As a result, her family said she developed suicidal thoughts.
www.cnn.com...

So over a year and she never files charges? Pictures of her "having sex" on a cellphone? IDK..."RAPE" is a strong accusation to what sounds like a drunken orgy which was regretted in the morning (and especially once it was all around school)

-I saw some girls do some shameful stuff at parties ... It happens...It wasnt rape.
EDIT: If she filed charges would be one thing- I can find that stated nowhere.
edit on 11-4-2013 by DarKPenguiN because: (no reason given)

EDIT 2- And yes, I have seen drunken girls WILLINGLY have "chain sex"- Just because they were drunk does not make it "rape"- And Boys are going do what boys do- Drunk willing girl? Booze? Yup... Nothing new under the sun....Except idiotic suicides by people too self centered and weak to realize that High School ends.

She went to the police, but they said not enough evidence to press charges.

dont jump to conclusions based off emotions ive been situations personally where a girl was a willing participant in group sex but was all of a sudden a rape victim when word got out about what shes done maybe the is a thing the current generation has to worry about but in mine no one ever killed themselves over it

-Even still. Evidence needs to go beyond "my word against yours" - I have no clue what was and wasnt in evidence nor who is guilty... BUT, I will say that a 15 year old girl drinking and partying with a bunch of other teenagers often results in bad decisions and regret (especially if it was filmed)

-Someone said "Date rape" drugs were used. Was there no toxicology report then? That would have been done and would have been evidence of some sort.

Right on.

Things are getting insane out there. Kids killing themselves over everything because they see all this attention (after the fact) and national/World outcry for a local issue.

-This breeds more of the same.

I'm 50 years old, and am not a prude - been round the mulberry bush a few times - but, I look at my 10 year old granddaughter, and I realize what's out there - and the lack of morals, self respect, and the dis-respect of others. The adults in her life are going to be talking about watching out for herself, her friends and staying safe.

There's also a whole bunch of drugs out there that weren't being used in my day.

I talked a lot to my son, who is now 31 years old, about respecting girls and realizing that what may sound like a good idea late at night after a few beers, may make you really hate what you may have done the next morning.

Respect yourself and others.

When you're a teenager, and sex is a new thing - the last thing anybody wants is to be a victim, a victimizer, and have it spread out all over the internet - you will have to live with it the rest of your life.

My God - videos of teenagers being victimized by their friends? Around forever if they get posted on the internet.

Besides it being child pornography and a felony.
