Billionaire Bill Gates has criticized capitalism stating that it results in greater funds going into issues such as a cure for male baldness than research into diseases that devastate the poor.

The Microsoft founder was speaking at a conference about his latest philanthropic push to end malaria, saying that it gets slighted in terms of funding because the ones with the checkbooks are typically men in wealthy countries.

'Our priorities are tilted by marketplace imperatives,' Gates explained.

He said that the way to fix the disparity is to address this 'flaw in the pure capitalistic approach.'

Daily Mail

As much as I dislike Bill Gates as a overly 'sharp' businessman, he has given away $28 billion of his fortune. He only has $37 billion left...

He has stated that he plans to give away 95% of his wealth. In other words, he isn't going to stop until he is down to his last $500 million.

I like Bill and I agree with him, solving real problems in the world should be everyone's 1st option, It has shocked me male baldness gets more funding.
The epitome of Western problems right here.

Don't get me wrong. Anyone else and I would be commending him. Unfortunately, I have spent so many hours cursing Windows that I find it hard to do anything but dislike the man.

I think he should be commended for trying to do something positive with the vast amount of money he has amassed - if only more of the wealthy elite were to do the same instead of hoarding the vast majority of their wealth.

Now I know the usual suspects will pigeon hole me as a damn, pinko, liberal commie for saying this but what really pisses me off is that we live in a society that allows such obscene fortunes to be amassed by individuals for their own personal use whilst so many go without.

I agree with him.

It's a shame that male baldness gets more funding than a crippling deadly disease. Market based solutions knows no morals.

Wait a second, ollncasino, you okay? How is this thread not about hating Moslems?

I find it ironic that a guy like Bill Gates who is a proponent of Eugenics and population reduction is upset about "capitalism".

How'd he make his billions again?

Though there is a huge difference between the free market and capitalism.

The free market is not permitted. Many of these nations have been bankrupted by the World's central banksters, the IMF etc for their resources or strategic importance.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man as well as Raj Patel author of Stuffed and Starved explain this in detail.

Sorry to disappoint you. I know you like to pop up on the Islamic threads and do your thing but the OP makes it clear that this thread is about male baldness.

He does have a point though. People who would benefit from the curing third world diseases don't have any money. Those with male baldness often do. Research follows the money.

The once worlds richest man condemns capitalism....next week we'll have Hitelr condemning the worlds anti-semites.

What we all forget about his 28 billion dollar donations is that it is tax deductable.

He should put his money where his mouth is, open his OWN research labs and find the cures the world needs.

The way i see it, Gates didn't steal this money or cheat the world into getting it. The system he lives in allowed him to accumulate such an extreme amount of money.

I find it very noble of him to give away so much BUT also to keep a lot for himself. I would do it and so would you i think, we are humans who do take care of ourselves first.

There are Buddhist monks out there who make all sorts of godly, enlightened references, they want no material possessions, they even shave their hair and yet they get food and water from poor people. Do they help anyone with their denial of materialism?

NO, they are useless burden to this world....while Gates helps himself and the poor.
That i find, enlightens and motivates others.

So, without going into a debate with you because we agree on every other stance on this thread, can you please explain your motivation for that rolleyes smiley on the end of that sentence? Do you feel he is somehow not worthy to keep that 5%?

In the IT world you have chronic Id-10-t errors.

On topic - Gates is a true humanist. He has done a lot for the progression of our world. All institutions benefit from microsoft products, and that alone has accelerated our advancement into the technological world of the 21st century. For him to further that advancement by giving away his wealth, it's truly admirable.

If we had more uber-rich who had the same views as Gates, our world would be an amazing place. It's too bad that he's the black sheep of the super-rich.

Right, he could donate $65 BILLION and still have billions left to live on, with more coming in.

Who needs to cling to that much money?

Isn't one billion enough?

Think he could get by on just one thousand million?

one of the "worst of the worst", capitalists damming capitalism lol that's rich.

perhaps if he were to stop his company from being a monopoly, that gouges consumers with crappy bugged stuff, and give up ALL his money he could say something. that cash he "gave" is like one spit in the bucked compared to the money that rolls in, and i imagine gives him a nice tax break as well.

medical/disease research fiances DO depend on people GIVING them money or medication companies that are only looking at stuff that will pay them the most, and so you see some things like breast cancer research and a cure for baldness getting unfair support while many other worthy things are ignored. amusingly while Bill is busy saying that he is at the SAME TIME doing the SAME THING himself. hello pot this is kettle.
he is choosing WHICH disease HE thinks is WORTHY. so how is he being any different?

You should learn not to open your mouth so wide, as it's pretty easy for your foot to get trapped in it at that point.

Capitalism indeed, a malaria cure will leave not profits to be made, a baldness cure neither, so the profits to be made are in "treatments", don't cure the diseases but treat them indefinitely that is where profits are.

Malaria is usually found in poor developing countries, but baldness is everywhere within the rich and the poor and is a vanity issue malaria is a life survival issue, just like male enhancement pills and cosmetic surgery get more propaganda than anything else.

Turn people into milking cows at the expenses of Capitalism.

And a person's cat/dog gets more funding than a kid starving in Africa.

And I can see just how eager people would be to put their pet to sleep, if the money saved could provide thousands of meals to kids in Africa saving lives.

Wonder if he has an issue that by law corporations are required to hold shareholders above consumers.

Bill Gates is heavily involved in Agenda 21. He is a member of the Club of Rome, and works with the Rockefeller Foundation and GMO foods promoting them as sustainable development. He is working with this organization
www.rockefellerfoundation.org...

The Rockefeller Foundation’s Strengthening Food Security initiative includes AGRA, which was launched in 2006 in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. AGRA is an African-based and African-led organization charged with sustainably increasing the productivity and profitability of small-scale farms throughout Africa.

I guarantee this statement is straight out of Agenda 21

Promoting improved policies and building partnerships to develop the technological and institutional changes needed to achieve a Green Revolution

yah what a guy that Gates is.

Oh yah that last link lists Georgie Soros as a member of CoR too... How convenient.
