Are they sure it was white smoke? Not an in between grey but pretty much white.. But possibly still black smoke?


All kidding aside. The smoke ritual is pretty humorous to me. It wasn't even used until the late 19th or early 20th century. You'd think they'd just put a billboard outside that lit up and said WE HAVE A WINNER!

I just watched it - and the bells are ringing - all over the island (Sicily) the churches are going wild with the bells.

Does anyone remember the guy's name who prophesized that this Pope's name would be something along the lines of "Peter the Roman" and that he would be the final Pope? I can't remember the guy's name at all and for some messed up reason Google is freezing up my browser today (my work computer is a horrible POS).

You would think after centuries of conspiracies, they would pay more attention to that sort of thing. Honestly, it doesn't help whatsoever.

With that short of a conclave, it's very likely to have been one of the two frontrunners -- the Cardinal from Milan or the Cardinal from Brazil. The former is an "outsider" the latter is an "insider", as regards the Vatican bureaucracy.
