Someone speaking their mind, using 1st Amendment rights.

I'm curious as to how the media will respond to this. We currently have SNOWMAGEDDON 2013 filling the airwaves, but after, will the media vilify or ignore?

The media will vilify him and dig up ever piece of dirt they can find if he tries to run, he is a Christian.

It was a brilliant speech. I watched it again this morning. I took special not of Obama's body language throughout key points of the speech ie deficit and healthcare. The arrogant head tipped back as if to stare down Dr. Carson along the bridge of his nose and the head buried in his blackberry during the healthcare portion of the speech. He was probably texting Michelle. "all of this for a !@#$% Prayer Breakfast"

Simple, relevant and to the point... Maybe we do need a physician in the White House..... Bring rational thought and critical thinking back to DC which has certainly been overtaken by lawyers...

I hope this is just the beginning for Dr. Carson. A fresh voice and fresh and simple perspective is what we need to bring the nation back together.

How can the eagle fly? By using a left wing and a right wing together... I'm sure Obama was biting his tongue. The most divisive President in my memory was certainly uncomfortable...

I looked to see what MSM had to say about Dr. Carson's speech... crickets. I even looked at HuffPo black voices page, they among all should surely have something to say about an African American neurosurgeon who spoke within feet of the first black president, right? Nothing. Even in the comments section everyone was commenting about the lack of coverage, but they had the President's speech on video and transcript. Sad.

I think he certainly made his point about the "pay your fair share" nonsense...

Make 10 dollars, pay a dollar. Make 10 billion dollars, pay 1 billion dollars - that is fair. Punishing people who succeed is no way to institute fairness.

Put the kibosh on the whole "share the wealth" meme.

The POTUS's body language was similar to that of an impudent school boy being lectured on giving a wrong answer in class.

Here's a WSJ article on the speech.

Whether this weekend finds you blowing two feet of snow off the driveway or counting the hours until "Downton Abbey," make time to watch the video of Dr. Ben Carson speaking to the White House prayer breakfast this week.

Seated in view to his right are Senator Jeff Sessions and President Obama. One doesn't look happy. You know something's coming when Dr. Carson says, "It's not my intention to offend anyone. But it's hard not to. The PC police are out in force everywhere."

Dr. Carson tossed over the PC police years ago. Raised by a single mother in inner-city Detroit, he was as he tells it "a horrible student with a horrible temper." Today he's director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins and probably the most renowned specialist in his field.

Late in his talk he dropped two very un-PC ideas. The first is an unusual case for a flat tax: "What we need to do is come up with something simple. And when I pick up my Bible, you know what I see? I see the fairest individual in the universe, God, and he's given us a system. It's called a tithe.

"We don't necessarily have to do 10% but it's the principle. He didn't say if your crops fail, don't give me any tithe or if you have a bumper crop, give me triple tithe. So there must be something inherently fair about proportionality. You make $10 billion, you put in a billion. You make $10 you put in one. Of course you've got to get rid of the loopholes. Some people say, 'Well that's not fair because it doesn't hurt the guy who made $10 billion as much as the guy who made 10.' Where does it say you've got to hurt the guy? He just put a billion dollars in the pot. We don't need to hurt him. It's that kind of thinking that has resulted in 602 banks in the Cayman Islands. That money needs to be back here building our infrastructure and creating jobs."

Not surprisingly, a practicing physician has un-PC thoughts on health care:

"Here's my solution: When a person is born, give him a birth certificate, an electronic medical record, and a health savings account to which money can be contributed—pretax—from the time you're born 'til the time you die. If you die, you can pass it on to your family members, and there's nobody talking about death panels. We can make contributions for people who are indigent. Instead of sending all this money to some bureaucracy, let's put it in their HSAs. Now they have some control over their own health care. And very quickly they're going to learn how to be responsible."

The Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon may not be politically correct, but he's closer to correct than we've heard in years.

It won't be long before the left wing begins to label and trash him. The term Uppity comes to mind and Dr. Carson is not "Black enough".... enough for what....

Another good man trashed by the State controlled media and their internet lemmings...

Hannity loved it...but I'm sure if it was a republican POTUS or Dr. Carson spoke out against the wars, he would've also ignored it...or called him radical...like another good doctor I know who speaks the truth.

Anyway, the speech was epic. I loved the part about the Bald Eagle. I'm sure that, like many great points he made, flew right over many heads...including Obama's.

"there, there little nerd".

ah that was priceless. he's too valuable of a person to try to put in the white house. i (jokingly) theorize our politicians get taken over by hostile body snatchers as soon as they get in office.

I hardly see where he schooled President Obama alone. This speech was for everyone who doesn't "get it." The story about the man who said "don't talk about dogs that way" illustrates Dr. Carson's point exactly. You people who despise the President want so badly for him to be shamed or brought down a peg fail by saying he was schooled because you've missed the entire point of Dr. Carson's speech. You are so focused on the President's body language and whether he smiled or not you missed the entirety of the speech. Every American, black, white, immigrant, natural born, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and especially all political parties needs to take heed of the advise in Dr. Carson's speech. We are failing as a nation because we as a whole are more focused on hurting the other party or making the other side lose when in the long run it is us, the American people, who ultimately lose. You are seal clapping because you think our President was "schooled" on these issues but yet I fail to see many people offer more than a disrespectful, poorly thought out objection to anything proposed by this administration. Please if anyone can offer up any solutions to our problems of debt, taxes and education other than the weak ideas of slash and burn everything except defense, zero tax liability for "makers" vs "takers", and a complete privitized education system then, I along with the rest of sensible Americans will be willing to listen.

There is quite a lot being talked about in terms of different alternatives to the nanny state we now live in.

Unfortunately, both dems and republicans fail to recognize the fact that America (as we now know it) will cease to exist in about a decade if something drastic isn't done.

Hardly, I think it is just simple human nature to see someone who is as smug and arrogant as Obama be confronted and to watch him squirm because he doesn't like people challenging his dogma.

It is an American thing to root for the underdog. I think it's that simple.

I for one "got" what the good Doctor was peddling from his magic bag despite my genuine pleasure at watching the obviously uncomfortable body language of the POTUS.

I despise the man because of his policy and what he has done to the nation; however, I despise him more because he is so flippant and condescending in the way he shoves his unpopular policy down our throats while declaring his moral and intellectual superiority at every turn. All the while he is a text book case in narcissistic personality disorder and pathological liar.

I love seeing anyone who got where they are by lies and deceit get knocked down a peg or two.

You illustrate two things with your response:
1. You see and hear anything that supports your particular world view. Don't feel bad, 50% of humans fall victim to this.
2. You are obviously ignorant of the message in this speech.

I doubt the man that delivered this speech wants your cockeyed praise. If you want to honor this person's message, listen more and stop relying on childish name calling for self gratification.

I noticed that too with some posters anyway. It's a good speech by a smart man. I agreed with much he said and disagreed with some but after reading some of the replies in this thread I have to wonder if those of us from different points on the political spectrum watched the same speech.

Unfortunately(for the entire nation), Obama was completely tuned-out, with his typical 'first debate' look of disinterest and disdain planted firmly on his face during the good doctor's brilliant speech. Even though it was a prayer breakfast, 'We The People' haven't a prayer that Obama learned anything.

See that's part of the speech I didn't agree with, that and the PC police are everywhere. Lawyers don't need to leave politics. Our tolerance for nonsense, even if only by default of ignorance, needs to get out of politics. His speech in part, to me, was participatory of a few false narratives... it's too bad those false narratives are causing this wise man to step into the role of a lighthouse beacon for the Right Wing, while the bulk of his speech is lost.
