From 65 to 360 Hour Flashlight Modification. Its Easy

______beforeitsnews/self-sufficiency/2013/01/360-hour-flashlight-modification-its-easy-2451460.html

Here's an article which will greatly increase the length of the battery life per use. What kind of effect would this have on an LED?

Please add input if you have done this.

Thanks

This IS a mod on a LED flashlight. :-)

Not that this can't be usable, but doesn't this mod kind of defeat the purpose of buying high powered flashlight in the first place?

You know, as opposed to a low powered one with longer battery life..

Look at who makes the Flashlight and figure out why they (the manufacturer) designed it this way...

If I'm looking for a light to use in my house during bad times, this will give me a lot of life. The last thing I want is someone seeing I have electricity.

Then if I change the resistor I can still double the life and I should be happy. Thanks for the tip.

That might be an advantage depending on the situation.

Of course you could simply add a switch and some more wire to bypass the resistor. That's what I would do if I was taking the time to modify it, simply switch between dimmer/longer battery life and brighter/shorter life as needed.

That's actually a good idea. What ever happened to those flashlights that had that option?

Many modern maglites have this option and many more. My latest 2AA maglite has 5 settings:

full power
half power
long flash
short flash
SOS flash

There is a smart switch to add these features to older 2AA maglites from a company called nite-ize.
