This is just Debka take on the report. They are reading far too much into the Russian alleged involvement. Just like their claim that Russia has supplied Iskander missiles during November. Debka's spin and reporting is not really credible or accurate.

The Russian Minister is simply noting that Syria itself has concentrated the stockpiles in more secure locations.

Syria still in 'control' of chemical weapons: Russia MOSCOW: Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that the Syrian regime was still in control of chemical weapons stockpiled at several locations in the conflict-ravaged country. "So far according to our information, which correlates with Western data, the weapons are under control," he told journalists as he flew back to Moscow from an EU-Russia summit in Brussels, quoted by the Interfax news agency. "The Syrian authorities have concentrated these stockpiles in one or two centres. Previously they were scattered around the country," he said.

The same goes with the recent conspiracy news website hype of Russia supplying missiles to Syria. Debka has been instrumental in spinning this story.

The reality.

MOSCOW, December 24 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Defense Ministry denied on Monday media rumors about sending commando units, air defense systems operators and military equipment to Syria. “No decisions to send commandos on board Russian warships [to Syria] have been made,” Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov told reporters in Moscow. He added that Russia had not sent air defense systems operators to Syria either. “It’s all nonsense…and media speculation,” Antonov said.

Remember it was exactly the same early this year with Debka and other sources claiming that Russia was sending a Naval Task Force to deploy Marines and Special Force in Syria.

Hello,

I have provided two other links that go into some detail, but you're quite right this story does have a lot of gaps, and the source is sketchy.

I normally don't use said link as a source, and yesterday before this thread got going I did PM, the staff, asking if this belonged in Breaking News...

It's still here, so I did my part.

Thank you for raising your concern and this issue.

Thanks for the reply. I fully understand but it was the Debka interpretation of the story that really is in question here. Debka is notorious for taking a story and spinning it for all they are worth. I understand why they do it but they don't exactly help in promoting accurate news. I feel sorry for the Russian Ministry of Defence Spokesmen who have to constantly release statements after the various conspiracy news websites put their spin on news events.

I think that is a good idea for Russia to take charge of the chemicals weapons because the rebels will use them not to mention all the fake deceiver videos.

Russia and China warned NATO not to invade Syria.
*they are fast modernizing their armies. China just releaed it's first Airplane carrier, Russia just relesed S500 System capable of making US ABM (missile shields) obsoloete.

Attack on Syria could mean WW3. All of you spoiled brats who justify US 'humanitarian aid' into Syria are a waste of oxygen.

First of all, China and Russia would not attack the United States over Syria. Period. Sure, Russia has a warm-water port there that is important, but more than likely, the United States would never put boots on the ground. The only realistic threat to the Russian control of Tartus if a new government revoked the contract signed in 1971. Which is extremely unlikely to happen.

Second, China has ONE aircraft carrier that is actually just a refurbished Ukrainian frigate. It just proved it capability to land a plane, something that the US/NATO has been doing for 70 years. It's range is extremely limited and even if it tried to come into a combat role anytime within the next decade, it has no modern equivalents to US cruisers, destroyers, ABM Frigates, etc. that all comprise a carrier strike group.

Third of all, Russia is pumping out S-400's (the older model) at 1-2 units per year. Russian defense staff have been using phrases like "when its deployed" or "when completed" when referring to the S-500. This is usually a sign that it is, at a minimum, years away, if ever going to be deployed.

The US will not go into Syria. Even if we did, China and Russia would stand by and watch. There is not going to WW3 and even if they tried, any counter-strike would be a joke.

I keep hearing all this talk about China not having good equipment... so why does it bother enlisting almost two and a half million people.

I'm not buying this.

yes, china has a Russian aircraft carrier.

they also have other carriers that they have turned into floating hotels and amusement parks... which amuses me pretty good I must say.

If you look at the situation you will find a whole lot of evidence that they are building not only their own aircraft carriers as they have announced already but have bought a lot of air craft carrier related equipment from russia... presumably fitted for russian carriers. another thing you want to consider is that not only is russia and china allies, but there are important russian seaports very close to china and close to chinese waters.

then you've got this little tid bit talking about everything BUT aircraft carriers.

The 225,000-sailor People's Liberation Army Navy already operates more submarines than any other Asian nation, with up to 10 nuclear-powered vessels and as many as 60 diesel-electric subs. It boasts almost 80 destroyers and frigates — more than a dozen of which have entered service since the 1990s — along with hundreds of smaller craft and support ships. China's second-generation, nuclear-powered Jin and Shang class submarines are considered just a notch below cutting-edge U.S. and Russian craft. The diesel-electric Yuan class boasts a Chinese-developed air-independent propulsion system that allows it to remain submerged for weeks, while Chinese Luyang destroyers and Jiangkai missile frigates incorporate stealth features and a mix of latest-generation Chinese and Russian weapon systems

usatoday30.usatoday.com...

I think it's interesting they refer to "Chinese-developed air-independent propulsion system"... Of course I don't know the details as i am not that into war machines but I think the interesting point is that they are clearly inventive on their own. Not only do they invent stuff on their own, they have a close collaboration with other powers and have a lot of places to launch an attack from.

This article says their arsenal is comparable... and it's only growing.

this is just one of the first top articles i could find. I'm certain if i dug into this i could find plenty of sources that conflict with your claims.

they would not leave their military bare because they are clearly proud of having a strong military force.

I see a trend here concerning this issue and it seems that a few people are really needing to promote China's weakness... and that is what i find most interesting.

I think with current situations, they tend to keep some things secret...well, they always have but you can choose to not consider that at all if you want... my point that it seems to be a very important issue to some... is what really piques my curiosity.

None of us really know if any of this stuff is true... but it seems almost as if you consider it your job to assure people of china's weakness.

I do try to be convincing at times on certain things... and for my own various reasons.

the reason I keep seeing this trend though, is truly a curious thing to me.

There lying or just really stupid. That's like Obama coming on live television telling everyone were going to bomb china and go to war but yet it hasn't happened yet and china strikes first. Why announce to the world what you are going or might do why not just do it and then tell us?

YES I would fu*king want to see that! If USA were to invade Syria US will most likely bomb hospitals and kill civilians again just like in Lybia; And then CNN and other MSM will come with false witnesses claiming the US saved them. Are you that ****** to think that USA is caring for Syrian people? You are either acting, or you are in fact the most un informed and the most naive human on this stupid planet that i had pleasure to read from.

Now go to slaughter you sheep. Baaaaaaaa

No one knows what is really exactly going on in Syria and who is really the bad guys and who is really the good guys. But this wouldn't matter if in fact some group used chemical weapons because that group would automatically be guilty of horrendous atrocities.

You say let them all die, let them kill innocent people by the thousands while the rest of the world stands there and just watches.......and you call me naive? Your point of view is shallow, rudimentary and disgusting.

It suites you well putting words I have never said / wrote. Your knowledge regarding Syria is offensive and you should avoid all threads regarding Syria, since you have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about!

US, SA, UK, France and Turkey are the cause of civilian casulties in Syria! The only way to stop killing of innocent civilians is to stop US, SA, UK, France and Turkey from suplying terrorists in Syria who are killing innocents.

Just look at their (terrorists) latest work: Massacre at Halfaya

These same terrorists are mainly imported from abroad, trained and paid for their terrorist acts by (USA, UK, Turkey, SA and France)

You have obviously failed yourself here. The best way to make it better is to accept the fact that you are wrong and realize who is creating (training, funding and supplying) terrorists!

There is no possible way they can pin a chemical attack on Assad without Russia knowing about it.. This is great news for Syria and good on the Russians for taking the issue into their own hands. It its proven to be true of course...

Try for the cause of globalism and you might get more support for your theory. I think that the current regime in America is pro Muslim Brotherhood and working against the real interests of the US and our allies. France is just as Socialist as the regime here, and France lost it's interests in North Africa, so it is not all that surprising they want dominance again. Tunisia kicked France derrieres out in the 50's. They still have street signs in French that say things like "Sortir".

You claim that "US, UK, France, Turkey and SA are destabilizing Syria for their own interest." ....Please source your claims with reputable sources.

Then you say...."It suites you well putting words I have never said / wrote."....... well you didn't quite say it that way, I toned it down a bit. I'll quote what you said here.

Eat your own words, no need for me to add any to your mouth.

On the subject I would like to add that anyone with the same bad attitude as this guy above should learn a little more about compassion for their fellow human beings. Having the power to do something we should never just stand and watch other human beings get slaughtered by the hundreds or thousands, or any number for that matter.

This holds true no matter what race we are, no matter what country we are from and no matter what race or country the people being hurt are from.

Here are your sources:

  • Obama authorized covert support for Syrian rebels, sources say

Washington (CNN) -- President Barack Obama has signed a covert directive authorizing U.S. support for Syrian rebels battling President Bashar al-Assad's forces, U.S. officials told CNN on Wednesday.

The secret order, referred to as an intelligence "finding," allows for clandestine support by the CIA and other agencies.

  • C.I.A. Said to Aid in Steering Arms to Syrian Opposition

WASHINGTON — A small number of C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey, helping allies decide which Syrian opposition fighters across the border will receive arms to fight the Syrian government, according to American officials and Arab intelligence officers.

The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the officials said.

  • Syrian rebels say Turkey is arming and training them

Rebel sources in Hatay told me last night that not only is Turkey supplying light arms to select battalion commanders, it is also training Syrians in Istanbul. Men from the unit I was embedded with were vetted and called up by Turkish intelligence in the last few days and large consignments of AK-47s are being delivered by the Turkish military to the Syrian-Turkish border. No one knows where the guns came from originally, but no one much cares.

  • Exclusive: Arab states arm rebels as UN talks of Syrian civil war

Syrian rebels are being armed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, The Independent has learnt, in a development that threatens to inflame a regional power struggle provoked by the 15-month-old uprising against the Assad regime.
    ...
However, three weeks ago, members of the loose assortment of rebel groups that comprises the FSA said they had received multiple shipments of arms including Kalashnikov assault rifles, BKC machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank weaponry from Gulf countries and that Turkey was assisting in the delivery of the weapons.

"The Turkish government helped us to be armed," said one member of the FSA living in the Turkey-Syria border area. He claimed that the weapons had arrived at a Turkish port via ship and were then driven to the border without interference from Turkish authorities.

  • France Grants Its Recognition to Syria Rebels

PARIS — France announced Tuesday that it was recognizing the newly formed Syrian rebel coalition and would consider arming the group, seeking to inject momentum into a broad Western and Arab effort to build a viable and effective opposition that would hasten the end of a stalemated civil war that has destabilized the Middle East.

  • UK joins France in supporting Syrian rebel coalition
