What is going on people???

Wow, ok where to start??? I personally do not know how or why one person can cause so much devistation. My heart goes out to all the parents and family members in CT. If it happened to me, I know all the local cops in my town, and surrounding towns, and lets just say, they would have to shoot me with a tranquilizer gun. Probably a few times.

Ok, on to my point, Now there will be people screaming to take away all guns, THAT IS NOT THE SOLUTION. I personally do not own a gun, Maybe people should undergo a psyche evaluation before purchasing a fire arm. I was telling a family member yesterday, the 2012 BS started a few weeks early. Why can't we get back to a place where politics are honest( I know, I know....wake up....) And people to help one another, not hurt each other.

I say all the wi-fi waves, and cell phone towers are driving people crazy, causing depression, maybe we need a Carrington Event to put us back on track. Maybe if we didn't have electrical impulses in our brains, and synopsis from every nerve, the stuff wouldn't bother us. I really don't know, but, I think it is gonna get really ulgy in the next few weeks, if anyone seems like they need an ear, or a shoulder to cry on, listen to them, and be supportive.

I understand that 2012 is an enigma, but I also feel that we will see the days after dec 21, we as people will have a different way of thinking about things. Hopefully for the better. But we will see.

I could hope that things will get better after december 21st but know that it will never happen. If a small percentage of the people in a country get irrational it screws it up for everyone. Foods that make our bodies produce toxins they cannot excrete, electrical signals messing with our brains. It was never nearly this bad before, it is ten times as bad as when I was younger. December 21st is not going to fix this people, we can't be that lucky.

Yes, you are right, there are alot of threads like that on here, I tryed to make mine different. I'm sorry if that got you upset. I'm just in a point in my life where I'm trying to figure a few things out. Running in circles to be quite honest, And I'm just asking for a little insight from other people.

As to your OP, I think that we're just in need of a fresh start. Maybe a new Ice Age to get us cooled down, because the majority seems to be totally out of control.

I'm also tired of all the "political correctness" and that everybody is way to sensitive and needs attention. Back in the day you would get smacked the taste out of your mouth and that was it! Live goes on.

But nowadays you take a pill and read fifty shades of grey to feel alive..

I have the same feeling. Before, campuses were free. The biggest problem was students ditching school and leaving campus for whatever reason. What the hell is going on here? I also remember a time when High Schools would let their students go buy lunch off campus. Then a gangster shooting happened withing the district, and then rules changed and we all suffered. Now it has gone to the next level. I play violent video games once in a while but it doesn't lead me to go end the lifes of others.

Ok Hellas, I will tell you something up front, and this is meant to be funny, you are dealing with a polish, blonde, female. That should explain everything, I think I started this journey for information a little late in the game for me, but better late than never. I do believe we need a fresh start, people in general are a bunch of vile, mean people. I hear ya, I went to a school in Gary Indiana, we had actual cops as hall monitors. We had an open lunch, I would leave and not come back...I'm still trying to figure out how I passed 2 classes in the after noon?? I think what it all boils down to, Is like saying heavy metal in the 80's made kids commit suicide, in all honesty, it has to do with your parental upbringing, in this day and age, you need 2 people working to support a family. I've said it before, it's reallly sad that a piece of paper can cause so much damage in so many areas......Money, the root of all evil.

How long before (if not already) until the mood of an entire population can be dictated and guided by subtle tweaks in the waves of energy pumped out of cell phone masts and picked up by the receivers (smart phones) that society has willingly accepted to become an integral part of their lives. Indeed most people get anxious if parted from their receivers for a short period.

Forget about the PTB implanting chips in our bodies, people cant get enough of their smart phones and in a final irony are willing if not eager to pay for them themselves. People queue overnight to have the latest glass of Kool Aid as soon as they are released and their daily movements and lives are influenced by their quest to be situated in a wi-fi hotspot,

Your statement, and the same statement by others on this thread, is the most common misstatement of the biblical quote. The actual quote is that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money itself is nothing more than a tool and a way to keep score of ones finances. But even that statement is wrong since there is plenty of evil in the world that has nothing to do with money.

Things in society keep getting worse because we let the people who teach and entertain us keep pushing the envelope. I am sure that there are plenty of people here at ATS who remember when married couples on television couldn't sleep in the same bed. They had to use twin beds. Now the only difference between prime time television and hard core pornography is camera angle. One of the recent programs, I believe it was Glee but I could be wrong, was warned by the FCC that if they aired an episode they were advertising they could be charged with disseminating child pornography. A little quiz for you. Who was the first television couple to be depicted as sleeping in the same bed? Answer at the bottom.

The same applies to violence in the media. Remember the age of innocence in television when we had shows like Mayberry RFD and the Andy Griffith show with the young Ron Howard playing Opie. Now every time we turn on the television, load a game into our PlayStation, go to the movies or read a novel we take the chance of being exposed to ever increasing levels of violence and gore. While it is true that not everybody who views such material is going to go out and commit a heinous crime and not everybody who does commit such a crime was influenced by the media, still it desensitizes us and leads to increasing numbers of violent crimes being committed.

The influence of violent or sexually explicit material on society can be likened to the evidence that tobacco will cause cancer and other respiratory diseases. It is difficult to correlate the overall influence to any single incident, however the statistics are damning. The curve that shows the increase in violent and sexually explicit activity in the media closely matches the curve that shows the increase in actual associated crimes.

Now to my opinion on the subject of this thread...

You can argue that the killer or killers were born that way and were destined to commit some heinous crime. Or you can argue that the killer or killers were made that way by the influence of violence in society and entertainment. It's the old nature/nurture argument all over again. But both are right, they are not mutually exclusive. A person with a proclivity towards violence can be tipped over the edge by exposure to violent material and/or some traumatic incident in their lives. But the same person exposed to non violent material or a calming influence just might never commit the crime. In the nature/nurture argument there is no black and white; just a million shades of grey.

The human condition runs the gamut from the seriously deranged individual who will maim, torture and/or kill as soon as they reach the age of reason and get the opportunity; to the angelic individual who cannot be beaten down enough to lose their rosy outlook on life.

So how do we stop the violence? the answer is we don't. All we can do is try to remove the violent content from the media and watch the statistics to see the inevitable results showing a corresponding drop in violence. The problem is that we have too many people willing to allow the violent trash on the principle of free speech.

But can we draw a line on free speech? Can we use the principle that free speech does not extend to walking into a crowded theater and yelling "FIRE" thus causing a stampede that can cause loss of life, to also inhibit the dissemination of violent material on the same grounds?

The answer lays on the side of a slippery slope leading to censorship run amok.

OK I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks that way, I thought I was still out in left field somewhere, Or did you join me??? Your on to something about them tweeking microwaves and such. And, as far as smartphones and the vices of todays socity, I myself, very basic cell phone, and the computer. If I were to loose the computer, I'd have to go old school and read a book. the above quote just caught my attention, the dark tower series opened my mind in a way i did not realise was possible as it was so unreal, i now realise the storyline is way more realistic than i ever realised possible, the most amazing book series i've ever read!
