The topic of the essay is countries the USA is involved with that we are trying to "transition" to democracy. I know of some of the obvious; Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya, etc. I've done my share of research, but would like to separate myself from the class by writing about a more "obscure" country. Not necessarily one of the obvious media picks. If I get a nice idea with a little bit of info, I will credit you as a "scholarly" or "interviewee" source by whatever name you prefer.
Again, just a suggested country along with a short reason why.
Nowhere better to come for advice than here.

I'm not so sure that statement is 100% accurate.

Good luck with your paper.

I would look at some of the post-Soviet states.

Albania, Ukraine, Georgia, Estonia etc.

You would have 20 some years to study the impact of western influenced democratization and Belarus to offer as an example of states who have resisted western political influence.

Thailand. They managed to keep the brits(burma) and the french(canbodia/vietnam) from invading for years upon years by playing some very smooth and delecate international diplomacy games back in the days of colonialism.Only a couple of weks ago Obama made a flying visit. The King is very, very clever in his dealings with the west but alas, he is very old now and America is just waiting for their time to pounce. So it might be worth checking out.
Goodluck.

Peace

I like this. But why Thailand? Is it their location? Their allies? Do they have resources US would like?
