Does anyone ever hear a distant talking or music when it's quiet in your house?

Since I have joined ATS, I have found amazing threads an posts that tell personal stories that relate to or are similar to some of my strange experiences. I was very happy to find this thread and read the posts.

I'm a "weird" magnet, although nothing about me is remarkable. My experiences have never been grandiose and the hearing of voices and music when I am alone has happened dozens of times to me throughout the years. I don't have tinnitus, nor do I suffer from any illness, either physical or mental. The music that I have heard, strangely, sounds like some reported in the posts: "old timey" almost like what you would have expected to hear on a radio from the 20s or 30s. I have heard other music, too, but that genre is the easiest to pick out as some of the others sound less clear. Voices that I have heard tend to sound similar; usually it's some whispering that I can barely make out. I have lived just about all over the world (Army officer for 8 years and wife to a recently retired service member), so it's not location specific.

It's amazing to read the experiences of others and, while I hate that we have to ponder what most people don't, it makes one feel less alone.

Great revival of an older post!

being that i hear voices & music from my shizophrenia symptoms... i do have those other rare instances where the melodies/tunes or voices are not the stuff that comes from my mind BUT are significantly different...

i have had maybe a dozen or so of these incidents that are really external, physical sound emmanations from 'somewhere'

i chalk them up to coming from a nearby dimension thats next to our reality

i used to think that these sounds/vibratrions on my eardrums were just blow-back from all the 24 hour noises we are bombarded with every day.... so they would not be a result of a air-compression that we would sense as sound-music-talk but rather they would be hallucinations from the mind.... which they were not

those rare times i hear the barely audible stuff is like up in the attic...never down in a basement..

so i have to wonder if house wiring is acting as an antenna & receiver and the whole house itself acts like a audio funnel...something like a 'Bandshell'
  • en.wikipedia.org...
which acts as an accustical resonator & focuses even small sounds to the audience

so...i have convinced myself that these are real sounds, possibly radio stations or ham radio that the house is picking up...because as i tried to locate the source or direction of the sounds one way would be clearer than in another direction... which i do not believe is a trait that imaginary music or voices would have...
but i could never pinpoint a location it was as if the source was 1,000 feet away from the arm length point in space where nothing was but the sound itself

When I was a kid I thought about the possibility of it being neighbors but when I married and moved out we were 5 or 6 miles from the nearest house while we lived in the country so I kinda ruled that out.

I never can understand the voices because it sounds too far away. If I do understand them I will absolutely not answer back !

I've experienced the same thing, even living far out in the country. I can never make out words but can get a "feel" for the conversation by the rise and fall of it. Do you ever get that? Where you can't make out what's being said but, like hearing talking from behind a door to another room, you get the idea of whether it's just conversational, argumentative or whatever?
I occasionally get the music too but it's never any tunes I recognize. It's not a scary thing just an oddity I can't quite fathom.

    Fillings in teeth?

Ok, I know this is weird but a few days ago I didn't have the tv on because I had been reading. I walked down the hall with a basket of laundry and I heard voices. I thought my son had left the tv on. But when I went where I thought I heard it, it stopped. I have experienced this since childhood. The voices sound far away and I can never tell what they are saying.

Sometimes I will hear music too. A while back we had just gotten to bed and I heard music and talking. I asked my husband if he could hear it and he said no. He can never hear it when I ask.

When I was young I thought It had to do with the house we lived in but I got married and it has happened in every place we have lived. That includes a few months of living way out in the country with no houses anywhere near us, so I ruled out it being neighbors. I have heard of this happening to people as they fall asleep but a lot of the time I hear it during the day.

I know some of you are gonna say i'm crazy, but I would like to hear any helpful input you can offer. I just want to know whats going on. This has been happening for over 30 years and I'm tired of being clueless about this.

Actually this happens to me quite often. It hasn't happened recently, but when I was a teenager I used to wake up in the middle of the night in my room and sit up in my bed and listen to the old timey music in the background of my house. There was no source for the music, and eventually I came to terms with this and just enjoyed the fact that I was hearing something that wasn't there. Sometimes when I'm blow drying my hair or vacuuming or something I think I hear words or music, but it's just the random combination of ambient sounds coming together in my brain to make the illusion of a third sound. This was not the case, however, with the old timey violin music I was hearing. There was no ambient noise in my room, no fan, no computer or radio. Just silence, and the faint playing of like a 1920's quality grammophone.

The reason this thread drew my attention-this type of thing haopopens to me on many occasions-when I have been listening to opera. It has no bearing on what opera, what aria, etc. My fancies run the gamut from Gotterdamerung to I'll Ttovatore. If I had been listening to Fats Domino.Green Day,The Clash or Tom Petty or John Fogerty or Yothu Yindu or Mango Groove of SigSig Sputnik or Gerry Rafferty-when I turn off the sound, they're gone.Except opera. All through the fay and into the evening I hear snatches of opera music.Odd,eh?

Sorry to be honest I've jumped to the last page to reply. My answer to the thread question is no I haven't but what I have heard was when my surround sound system is on and the volumn is turned right down I pick up Arabic talking from like a radio station. I believe that's what it is

I hope the music isn't hospital musak and the voices aren't saying, "Hey, you in there? Can you hear me? I've heard coma patients can hear..."

    Too many twilight zones, sorry.

Exceptional hearing? A weird induction and translation of radio? Psychic ability? Low key schizophrenia? Us being in a simulation and hearing the "real" world occasionally? The next dimension over? Dunno, but you aren't the only one.

    Keep the TV on?

I have heard muffled voices before when the house was quiet. Sometimes it sounds like a conversation, and other times it resembles a radio talk show.

More recently, I have been plagued by what I can only describe as earworms. Every morning I wake up and there is at least one song playing in my head, on repeat. On a couple of occasions I have been able to count at least three different song playing at once. I sometimes jokingly tell my husband that "the little DJ in my head tormented me all day with (name of song)." I can never predict which song might play on any particular day, although sometimes the same song will play for days at a time. It can be a little maddening, especially when the volume is higher than usual.

I suggest seeing a neurologist. There is no way an online forum can diagnose.

Not to alarm you but that is the exact same thing my mother experienced which lead to her diagnosis of dementia. However dementia can have many different causes some reversible some not. Going to a specialist is the only way to find out.

I know this will come off as crazy, but I've heard industrial and pop rock music before and made contact with a voice along with it. I believe these are extra-dimensional sounds and they look for people by searching your life or mind with their "abilities", at least that's what i gathered by asking the voice questions. But be careful contacting them, they might just stick around and keep bothering you. By the way you have to project your thoughts towards the sound to make contact.

I got on the internet tonight to find out if other people have had the same experience. I hear music and believe it is happening when there is a connection of some type. I got in conversation with a voice just as you did. I figured out also they told me they use the electromagnetic energy from machines in the house to zoom in on a person to communicate with. (i.e. fans, microwaves ovens, earphones, etc.) They definitely communicate to us by manipulating dimensional frequencies (not sure if I am technically accurate with the description, but you get the gist of what I am saying.)

Very nice to finally hear someone else with the same thing happening. If you would like to discuss it more then feel free to write back. *snip*

a reply to: LittleBit111 When I was a teenager this happened to me I could hear a tiny voice or voices, no music. What it turned out to be was the neighbor across the street customized retail 4 wheel drive pick up trucks for the forestry service for fighting fires. Somehow the radio he used would ever so slightly cause the magnets in my stereo speakers to vibrate and reproduce what was being broadcast.

Yes but I ignore it. I know its spirits or energy trying to get my attention just I am not trying to get attached or involved .

I get it quite often, but am pretty sure it is just radio feedback from my computer speakers.

Ditto on the music 20's and 30's.

I have heard voices as well but it's either very faint and hard to pick up or clearly not English, Spanish, French or German (which I speak enough of to be able to at least recognize the linguistic patterns and identify it.)

I have always heard distant music and voices. Sometimes it is clear, sometimes very faint. Comes and goes. I have excellent hearing, so says the hearing test I had done last December. My hubby is deaf so hearing is a focal point in my home.

I think some places have a thinner veil between inter dimensions. Some can hear beyond this reality and most cannot and blame it on obscures is safe: l and psychological issues.

Say what you will, but it is happening and very very real.

Well if you go to the doctor and say you are hearing voices and music with no reasonable explanation behind it, you will be most likely diagnosed with schizophrenia. Consequently you might get meds with unpleasant side effects or in worst case put into asylum, depends on the doctor`s mood and mindset.

That being said, there are other explanations for what is happening to you.

    1. tooth fillings and braces

There have been reports from people picking up radio signals. The scientists seem to agree to the idea that this is, although not confirmed, theoretically possible.

    answers.google.com...

    2. demonic oppression.

Highly unlikely in your case because this is happening to you since childhood and I assume from your post that things are not escalating. Or if I put it in another way, are there any other paranormal "symptoms"?

    3. extra sensitivity.

Like if having tooth fillings, you are able to pick up frequencies, whether be radio signals or others, perhaps higher dimension frequencies, spirit world...etc...but without metalic accessories. So your brain is picking it up on its own. May I ask if you have RH- blood type? If so, then this is very likely.

    4. tinnitus.

Again, highly unlikely because this is happening since your childhood. Have you had any problems with hearing lately?

    en.wikipedia.org...

    Hope this helps...

I've experienced this of phenomenon as well, there are any number of possible explanations, but the 2 that really stick or in my head for some reason are the 2 reasons that popped into my mind as I was reading through the thread. The first one is that we are somehow connected to the akashic record somehow, the second one is that if sometime in the future time travel is achieved that there could be a ripple in the space time continuum that is causing some sort of paradox that is causing time and space to blend together and interfering with our present.

What's wrong with just accepting that hearing this is just residual phenomena?

Have heard it on & off since we got this house. It never occurred to me it wasn't just the previous owner's old radio looping thru? Mostly late 40's-early 50's tunes?

Of course since this is the gray area I guess it's ok to speculate that it's the sign of something more ominous??
    LOL......

Thanks for dredging this old thread up, I never imagined this many other people heard it too!!
