I can offer 2 bits of advice at this point.

1. If the table you are serving has children and they request their check, try to get it to them as quickly as possible. It could be the kid/s are on the verge of complete meltdown or the meltdown has begun. Helping the table expatiate leaving so the kid's meltdown does not go full blown in the restaurant will score you some points. (at least it does with my family)

2. Please beware there is a well known poster on the internet that likes to trash servers. And I think you have now met them here on ATS. Internet search is your friend in this situation.

Good luck!

I just Googled her too....lmao at all the stuff written about her.

She is notorious on the web, and I bet she goes to chain restaurants because owners of independent restaurants have asked her not to come back.

Anyone who spends so much time complaining about service , and has a reputation like this on the web really needs to get a life.

There is seriously something wrong with someone who will complain about a water glass getting refilled without asking for it...

NO, I have never been to Hooters, but my teenage sons want to go...BAD.

I just wonder, now that this story is out, how many broke adult virgins are heading to the thrift store for a uniform then directly to the closest Hooters????

Im sure your sons will have a great time there, there is definitely alot of eye candy at Hooters.

The uniform definitely helps but I think when you pay no attention to the girls at Hooters it sorta makes them want you. They get hit on all day long so they are used to that but when you ignore them it bothers them and they will do pretty much anything to get you to notice them

If anyone does go to a surplus store to get a uniform do your homework so you know how its supposed to be worn. There is alot of regulations on how to wear each uniform and what goes where on the uniform, its so strict that we have to use a ruler when putting on tabs, badges, crest and patches like my CIB badge has to be 1/8 inch above the US ARMY tape.

Also if someone does do that dont go where there is military, they will spot you from a mile away and they kinda take offence to that, I could care less.

WHY? Shouldn't the customer get what *THEY* want for *THEIR* MONEY they are paying in the tip, huh?

NOT EVERYONE WANTS WATER! YOU have something wrong with you that you want to *CONTROL* my money.

Also, I have seen other people complain that they don't want their server refilling their water every little while when it's not even half empty, because it's annoying and it interrupts their conversations. YOU KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING IS THE TRUTH!

It's not just about refills of water, it's about ORDERING FOR YOU even the first glass of water. WHY should I have to take water if I don't want it, huh?

It's called *CUSTOMER* SERVICE, NOT WHAT DOES THE *SERVER* WANT! REMEMBER OUR MONEY PAYS YOU, YOU DON'T PAY US, SO YOU DON'T GET A SAY IN WHAT WE WANT FOR OUR TIME THERE!!

I should get to complain about my time being wasted on what I could have gotten that I *DID* TRULY WANT INSTEAD. WHO WANTS TO WAIT LONGER FOR THE THINGS THEY DID WANT, HUH? I don't know anyone that likes waiting longer for the things they did want and want their time wasted, do you?

So I don't get WHY you feel there's something wrong with this just because MOST people like something when the tip is coming from the *INDIVIDUAL* customer, therefore, *THEY* should get to get what *THEY* want for *THEIR* money.

I get to complain about it, because I am ********PAYING FOR MY TIME THERE CALLED A TIP IF I DON'T WANT IT STUPID*********!!

There's something wrong with a CONTROL FREAK LIKE YOU WHO THINKS YOU SHOULD RULE MY MONEY! WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO TELL ME WHAT I WANT? I don't even let my husband order for me much less a stranger.

NOT EVERYONE WANTS WATER! So WHY act like they will?

My family went out for Christmas dinner last year to a place they have been to often and raved about. I ended up with a bloody steak. I don't like sending food back because it might get "doctored" on the way back, so my boyfriend was going to end up with a raw steak in his freezer. Anyway, my mother made a fuss and I ended up with a replacement steak - I don't think that steak had ever seen a flame or an oven or anything like that. Lets just say, that is the last time I am ever setting foot in that place again.

One of the most frustrating things about waiting tables is when a customer orders a well done steak and the kitchen doesn't believe you! So, they give the server a medium rare steak and order the server to deliver it anyway, saying, "We can always cook it more, but can't cook it less."

The customer is disappointed, if not grossed out by the blood, and rightfully so, and has to wait for the steak to be cooked some more, while the rest of the table is eating. It's a bad experience for everyone, all because the cook is too afraid to overcook the meat.

Whenever that would happen, which is too often. I would feel awful. Please don't be afraid to send your food back if it's not right. In 35 years, I never once saw anyone tamper with a customer's food, for any reason. REALLY!

And there are many people who will complain if water is not brought to their table right away.

Taking time to ask yet another question, (as you seem to love so many questions) only takes time away from other patrons who are patiently waiting for service.

So now you suggest another trip just so a patron doesn't have to look at a glass of water on their table?

You like chains because you get off on the complaint forms, and for some reason it fulfills a great need in you to be able to complain.

Here are few examples of your notoriety on the web.
hfboards.hockeysfuture.com...

This was no isolated incident. Springs1 has been on a crusade against the service industry for nearly seven years; searching food service threads on Google to shatter our perception of food wisdom, in much the same way that Godzilla decimates Tokyo to help raise awareness for the fallout of nucleaur waste. She registed at Calgarypuck SPECIFICALLY to unleash her wisdom on this single subject. By googling it. Who knows how many other threads on the internet are at the mercy of this at exactly the same time?

It seems you have registered here specifically for the same reason..too funny.

www.undercoverwaitress.com...

www.yelp.com...

These are just a few
..there are more.

Now please quit your griping and "yelping"so that the Op can get some honest decent feedback to what was originally a great thread.

That's why you *ASK* or the customer should honestly be ordering it themselves. When I want water, I ORDER IT the times I have ordered it. I AM A RESPONSIBLE CUSTOMER, WHY CAN'T THEY BE? Since customers seem to be stubborn to ask for water, the server should *ASK* if the customers want water or not.

Originally posted by WhisperingWindsTaking time to ask yet another question, (as you seem to love so many questions) only takes time away from other patrons who are patiently waiting for service.

YET, you can save A LOT OF TIME for the ones that don't(trips and filling glasses with ice and water for NOTHING! I have seen blogs where the servers complained that the customers ordered water, but didn't touch it.

If you have time to chit chat, pick up dirty dishes, and ask how we are doing or if we have been there before, THEN YES, YOU HAVE TIME. Quit making excuses to not ask this. It's NOT YOUR CHOICE to decide if I want a glass of water or not, it's NOT YOUR CHOICE, because you aren't **********PAYING FOR THE SERVICE, *********WE ARE**************!!

Originally posted by WhisperingWindsTSo now you suggest another trip just so a patron doesn't have to look at a glass of water on their table?

It's OUR MONEY, I have EVERY RIGHT TO SEND IT BACK CONTROLLING PERSON YOU ARE!! WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO HAVE SOMETHING IN MY *WAY* ON MY TABLE I DON'T WANT? WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO MAKE ME HAVE SOMETHING I DON'T WANT AND THEN EXPECT A GOOD TIP, WTH????

Originally posted by WhisperingWindsYou like chains because you get off on the complaint forms, and for some reason it fulfills a great need in you to be able to complain.

NO, you are WAYYYY OFF BASE HERE!! I LOVE THE FOOD. I AM A RANCH PERSON! I go to certain places because of the condiments like Red Lobster has good tartar sauce. Chili's has good ranch.

I would rather ************ANY DAY*************** HAVE PERFECT SERVICE TO HAVE NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT AND TIP 30% PLUS THAN TO HAVE COMPLAINTS WITH A BAD TIP. YOU HAVE NO CLUE OF WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!

Think about it, if most people wanted water, wouldn't the chains make servers serve water ALL THE TIME? They don't, so you are in the wrong. Majority DOES NOT WANT WATER AND YOU KNOW IT!

While you have made some great points, much of what you have said could be considered nitpicky.

You reputation precedes you, and you joined this site to basically scream at servers that they were lazy, and selfish, when you have never witnessed them doing their jobs, or seen the amount of tips they have made for great service.

You have done nothing but ************Scream*********** and be ignorant. According to the web you have made this your mission in life, and quite frankly I feel pity for you.

I seriously am done responding to you .

Sorry, but if others asked for things *BEFORE* the table that has kids, they come first, because they were BEFORE that table. It's ONLY FAIR!! It's VERY UNFAIR to do things in the wrong order and you know it. YOU WON'T BE GETTING A GOOD TIP FROM THE OTHERS TO FAVOR ONE TABLE FIRST THAT WASN'T FIRST!

That's all very well and good, but how much of a tip do you think the rest of the staff are going to get if the whole restaurant is disturbed by a kiddy "meltdown", especially one that involves lots of screeching and noise? I agree it's not fair to serve people in the wrong order, but some common sense and people observational skills should be implemented as well. You can usually tell if kids are cranky or happy and then determine if you want to get rid of them asap or let them wait a bit longer.

I 'hear' you, but all that blood on my plate just makes me want to run out the door and throw up. I've managed to delude myself quite nicely by "convincing" myself that my meat is grown in a vat and no animals were harmed in the process. I don't like to be reminded that the whole thing is nonsense.
If I liked more than 3 vegetables I would go vegetarian, but since I don't I can't.

I also prefer it when the waiter/ress writes the order down, but even when they write stuff down they get the order wrong.

I used to take my gran to a place because she really liked the fries, and we would have burgers with them. Gran avoids MSG so no BBQ sauce, I don't like soggy bread so no sauce unless I put it on myself, and I loathe tomatoes and lettuce don't give me warm fuzzy feelings.

So we order burgers with no sauce and no garnish. Chips (aka fries) with vinegar (in little sachets). We usually (80% of the time) get burgers with everything. No vinegar. GRRRRRR

It got so bad I was writing down the order myself and NO SAUCE AND NO GARNISH in big letters, and reminding them to check about the no sauce and garnish. Now we get the correct order 98% of the time. The one time the waitress got it wrong the kitchen sent her back to check - we have the habit of ordering the same thing at this particular place.

I would usually not go back to some place that botches up regularly, but I'm willing to deal with a great deal of horse turds to keep my grandmother happy.

I know the serving staff have little control over what the cooks produce, but if I don't like the eating experience and I don't enjoy the food or have to go to extra efforts then the tip doesn't look so good. I really have no objections if the waiting staff tell me that they cooked the wrong thing or botched the order and they are making a new meal, but I won't be happy if the soggy, tomato and sauce infested burger ends up in front of me.

I too would never cheat on my wife. I had a similar experience to yours but not nearly as bad. I ran my own industrial engineering and repair service in the Chicago Metro market from 1979 to 2003. back in the 80s I had a mold shop as a customer and the two owners were also good friends. One day while I was working on one of their machines they asked me to go to lunch with them.

It seems that an Italian restaurant had gone out of business and was taken over by new owners who staged "fashion shows" during the lunch period. Those girls were wearing such skimpy lingerie that they would have made a Hooters girl look overdressed. While they didn't try to sit in our laps it was still more like a strip club than a restaurant. And to make things worse, the "waitress/fashion model" had a habit of getting too close during visits to the table. Now picture this, you are sitting down and some leggy thing is standing right beside you with her crotch at eye level. AND I could smell her unwashed crotch. Talk about ruining a good meal...UGH... to the max. She would have gotten absolutely no tip if I had been paying for the meal. Fortunately for her my customer/friends paid the tab to write it off as a business expense.

I suspect your love of chains has to do with the fact they are the only places where your boorish behavior is tolerated. Managers in chain stores do not always have the discretion to deal with clinically insane customers.

In a private restaurant setting I would be very very generous with you. You would get one free meal--on the house, and told to NEVER come back.

I hate walking into home depot lately; its so slow bored "associates" are standing at the end of each Isle!

"Hello; can I help you find anything?"

"Hi; Why no thanks, I know exactly where I'm going."

"Hello; can I help you find anything?"

" Hi; Why no thanks, I know exactly where I'm going."

I guess it's the perpetually "lost and confused "look on my face?

"Hello; can I help you find anything?"

I know people need work...So we try to buy locally even if we really don't have to. and go out to support smaller non chain restaurants.Though we are not "loud bar" folks".

LOL

I also find it annoying being "harassed" by store employees. Leave me alone to shop/browse or ask once and then leave me alone. If you constantly ask or worse hover over me while I am looking around I will leave the store and go somewhere else.

On the other hand, when you really need a store person, they are impossible to find.

Well if anything I've learned from this thread its that my restaurants got it right. Our 1/2 lb fire grilled delicious burgers come plain, just bread and beef. We ask you what else you would like on it, and only charge for cheese, any condiments you request are on the side.

I don't sell the 18$ NY strip everyday, but I sell about 2 a week and can't remember the last time the temp wasn't right. HAHAHA that's awful about the well done steak. We don't do this. Under cooking it, saying you can always cook it more, that's terrible!!! I can completely understand not wanting to see the blood (even though I like my steak medium) I can't believe they do that!! That's cheap!!!

These are the times from today that this thread has been annoyed by a pain in the butt:
