Apparently rejecting a more controversial “You Didn’t Really Get Raped, Pregnant Lady” theme for its 2012 convention, the GOP has announced that its Tuesday night session will be themed “We Built This!” The sentiment serves as both a celebration of American entrepreneurship and an attack on President Obama’s previous comments to business owners.
...
However, the stadium where the GOP will be announcing “We Built This!” was financed primarily by the government. The Tampa Bay Times Forum arena, which houses the Tampa Bay Lightning, was built in 1996 as the “Ice Palace” with 62% government funds. The total budget for the project was $139 million, of which public money accounted for $86 million and team money accounted for $53 million.

No the government didn't provide anything. They take our hard earned money and use it to do things. We still built it, not them.

Um, stadiums and arenas get built all the time with no government funding. It's usually in places where there is enough public demand and private investors will see a return on their money.

Look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own. You didn't get there on your own. I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business -- you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don't do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.
So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That's how we funded the GI Bill. That's how we created the middle class. That's how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That's how we invented the Internet. That's how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that's the reason I'm running for President -- because I still believe in that idea. You're not on your own, we're in this together.

"we built this"....oh, the irony. That is what Obama was saying! We built this....we (as in a nation) collectively.
Perhaps the Republicans should rethink their convention theme and call it "I built this"

Sorry, but you didn't build the roads, or any other government funded program.
And I willingly pay my taxes so I can live in a better society...funny how you think the money is taken from you, but then still try to take credit for what is done with it
Yes because I worked hard for that money. The government didn't. And I would have rather given my money to a private company whom I could hold them to their word to build roads, than to the government who usually just wastes most of it.
And I fail to see how it applies. My business doesn't use the roads, it's all online. And the government didn't invent the internet

The highway system is a waste of money???
That is an odd position to take...but I guess whatever it takes to not admit you are wrong.

Um, yes...the government did infact fund the research that resulted in the internet.
So yest...government helped build your business...you should thank them.
