Conservatives need stop kowtowing to liberals who get hysterical over every little thing that they dislike or disagree with. Liberals certainly don't have an apologetic tone when extremists amongst their wing come out of the wood works...and they shouldn't because no one is responsible for the words or actions of other adults. This is a major weakness of conservatives and it only gives power to liberals.
Furthermore, what he said was absolutely nothing to receive so much backlash over. Why is even alluding to the fact that false rape allegations DO occur so taboo?

Exactly. This is Akin's position and in fact that of many other wing nuts on the Hill who, for example, tried to replace the term "rape" with "forcible rape" in abortion legislation. (There were 185 some co-sponsors for H.R. 5939, mostly Republicans, including Ryan.) Akin has already said that he was trying to say "forcible rape" instead of "legitimate rape" in that interview. That's why the GOP leadership is essentially screaming "shut the hell up."

He acknowledged the fact that some rapes DO result in pregnancy, but alluded to the fact that it's rare. The theory in question has not been disproved. There is evidence for it.
As for the outrage, most of it seems to surround the 'legitimate rape' comment.
