Weltbild, one of Germany’s largest publishing companies, happens to be owned and operated by the Catholic Church. But that has not stopped it from publishing books that many of the faithful find offensive.

No great surprise I guess, that the RCC should make money where it can - however it sems it has a little bit of added hypocrisy to the obvious - Catholics who have spent years pointing it out to the RCC hierachy have been largely ignored, and het church has pretty much lied outright about its position on the matter:

A Church spokesman responded: “Weltbild tries to prevent the distribution of possibly pornographic content.”

Well, it's prevention efforts have apparently not been so successful. For more than 10 years, a group of committed Catholics has been trying to point out what is going on to Church authorities, and they are outraged at the hypocrisy of the spokesman's statement. In 2008, the group sent a 70-page document to all the bishops whose dioceses have shared ownership of Weltbild for 30 years, detailing evidence of the sale of questionable material.

Now doesn't this look just like the priest-abuse scandal??

- the RCC hiding dodgy or illegal or immoral activities for some purpose - turning a blind eye to its own hypocrisy until it is forced kicking and screaming to admit it.

What's the bet the next thing will be some sort of mock apology, abjurations of sorrowful guilt and a promise to do better??

The Catholic church has been involved with publishing and editing books for the last 2 thousand years...

All we need to do next is to bust them for being involved in drug or child trafficking businesses!

Maybe the butler will spill the can of worms...

Starred and flagged. This needs a lot of exposure. Its eye opening and I think a lot of Catholics need to see this.

It won't matter....because, they already have the blood of thousands if not millions of people on their hands. From the crusades to the times they helped transfer Nazis to the times they probably financed wars.

Gosh...people already have all the reasons they need to see the church is nothing but a hypocritical, barbaric, controlling, manipulative octopus with its tentacles in everything filthy that they swear to denounce.

Being a Christian today is like wearing a scarlet letter. It just identifies you with a murderous group of thugs.

The things people believe...part of the reason the world is so messed up. People are so wrapped up in trying to be a part of something "good" that they become part of a huge problem.

Say no to religion that divides and hates and kills. Say yes to just being a good person. There is no excuse for this mess. Just treat people the way you'd want to be treated.

Humanity -- the one true belief system we can all respect.

Sick, though not surprising. Most organized religion is corrupt, but the Catholic Church is so deep and historically corrupt and twisted it is in a class all by itself. They should turn the Vatican over to the nuns.

I flagged you because i agree that the catholic church is THE problem.

But i have to remind you that the rcc is not christian, as much as they claim to be.

Here's the proof: they could drop "Jesus" entirely from their "roster" (and they have already), and still function completely as before. If you're "christian", then Jesus is pretty much 100% of your "religion".

Just remember too,Jesus was VERY against the organised religion of His day, with all sorts of bells and whistles and special prayers out loud and all that. As to RCC making money off porno, they're also the largest sponsor of the ferrari racing team. Money is seriously no problem for them. It's sick on every level.

And catholics wonder why Protestants view their church as the one listed in Revelations as the Harlot or Whore...
