Would someone kindly tell me about the clouds in these photos?

I am not a prolific thread maker here on ATS so if this is in the wrong place, do change it. It's all the same to me where it goes as long as it's seen and some questions are answered.

So here's the link to the flickr page that contains the photos. Please examine them and comment as to what in the world is happening to the sky there. It's dripping! lol

Seriously, I've never seen clouds do that, at least not that I can recall.

It's called Virga.

Evaporating rain.

they look like some simple stratus clouds to me. The "dripping" effect is probably rain which is evaporating before it gets tot he ground highlighted by the setting sun.

Sounds about right to me. It looks really cool during sunsets.

Oh, yeah, well that's like 4am here. These were taken yesterday morning. I guess I should have mentioned that. The sun is coming up, so to speak, behind the photographer.

Forgot to add: Thanks for your answers!!!
