I would like to witness this with my own eyes
Horsetail Falls Yosemite

The optical effect is the result of several factors culminating to the magical moment: the position and tilt of the earth in relation to the sun at this time of the year, cloud conditions, enough winter rainfall or snow to actually get the water flowing, and the angle of sunset.

Horsetail Falls catches Fire at dusk and lasts for about two minutes and this also only happens for one week in February

There’s only about a five-day window to see and capture this “firefall,” from around February 19th through the 24th

First time I saw that was in the movie Caine Mutiny. (It IS the same waterfall, right?)

Anyhow, I remember going "whoa" when they showed it.

Simply beautiful. Thanks for posting!

Maybe you have the wrong film in mind

The Caine Mutiny (1954) is the story of shipboard conflict and a mutiny aboard a WWII naval vessel, and the subsequent court-martial trial of the ship's captain.

Starring Humphrey Bogart

And this was Bogarts last great film role he died in 1957

Love that movie! Near the middle of the film the young Lieutenant and his girlfriend spend a weekend together. Could have sworn it was Yosemite and the dramatic, romantic shot was the waterfall from your post. Could be mistaken.

Still, your pics are much better!

Cheers.
