It is generally believed that the Chinese obtained certain state-of-the-art aviation technologies, including stealth, by stealing them from the USA or Russia. It also seems suspicious that China built the aircraft and started its tests too quickly. Chinese officials originally said that the new jet would appear as early as in 2017. US specialists thought that the Chinese stealth fighter would appear some time in 2020 or even later.

The Chinese may have copied the stealth technology from the US-made F-117 aircraft that crashed in Serbia in 1999. They probably bought the fragments of the plane from local farmers.

Pretty fast accomplishment in making a copy.

I hope we have plenty of military technology not yet publicly revealed as I fear that in not too many years China will put an end to our world adventures at any cost.

I wonder if their pilots choke, pass out and crash like the American ones do.... or maybe they left out that design feature when they copied the US tech!

Mod Commentary...

Six posts, this being the seventh...

...and the majority are off topic already... Not good, guys.

The title, and topic is: China tests its second 5th-generation stolen stealth fighter.

Let's try that topic, shall we?

Sorry but I am not up to speed on the Aurora.

How many do we have?

Surveillance and/or combat proven?

China is far behind us on military technology but in some theaters numbers still count. They must choose their battles carefully. We could each win battles but who would 'win' the war? Don't ask me to define win!

IMO we have weaponized space with the Russians starting to do the same. China is far behind.

This is technology they got 13 years ago, which debuted in 81, over 30 years ago. Not cutting edge.

Put the best chinese pilot in an F22 and our worst American Pilot in an F16 and the result would be the same every time.

Which must be why the US government spent 80 billion dollars on the F-22's cav.... We all know there are very smart&capable people serving in the US armed forces but posts such as yours suggests that there remains some room for improvement.

Stellar

If its a 117 copy, its badly obsolete already.....slow and pathetic compared to the new stuff we have now.....
Still one must credit the chinese with being quick on the uptake.....

A MADE-IN-CHINA aircraft????

If I lived ANYWHERE near where that jet flies, I would be wearing a HELMET. If it doesnt crash, it certainly will be raining parts down to the ground everywhere.

The cant even make a decent can-opener.

China is perfectly capable of making high tech, high quality goods. It's just that Wal-Mart wants the cheapest crap imaginable.

Think about this for a second - we no longer have the technology to put a man into space in the USA, and China is now building a space station. It will be operational soon, and they are putting their own astronauts up there in their own rockets.

A bit of Chinese wisdom from Sun Tzu - never underestimate an adversary.

I personally think the Chinese stealth fighter should be seen as a shot across the bow. They are developing FAST and they want people to know it. THat says to me that their intent is to take a more vocal and active stance on the world stage. With their track record of human rights that should rightfully worry westerners.

As to the capabilities of said fighter IMHO that's still a big question mark and will be for maybe as long as a decade more. China isn't about to use it's prototype fighters to get in a scrape somewhere that's just not how things work. Hell chances are the armament package isn't even capable of being used yet if their development programs are anything like the f35 development programs.

All in all this stealth fighter situation should worry people a little bit and maybe even just MAYBE create enough of a stir to where we reign back in our contractors and force them to start performing on budget and on schedule development!

Whether this new Chinese aircraft is brilliant and fully ready or a mere shell is rather pointless. It appears to be well on the way to being a combat threat. That will spur the USA on to spend more and more to stay ahead. It's called an arms race and it's how the USA broke Russia. Chinese culture plays the long game. They have no interest in a shooting war with any western nation............no-one wins and they know it. They are playing at commercial war. They pop up with new "weapons" on a regular basis, and apparently in very short timescales; US military must have nextgen kit, arms manufacturers see $$$ signs and USA gets deeper in debt. US, (and rest of west), consumers want tawdry gimmicks at low prices; kaching ! China supplies them. Dollars flow to China and USA gets deeper in debt supporting domestic population whose jobs have been exported to China.

Just as USA broke Russia over the Cold War period, so I believe is China doing the same to USA. Long game, no intention of actual hostilities on China's part and USA will, eventually, have to stop due to no more cash or turn overtly aggressive towards China which will sit back and take a minor kicking, knowing full well that rest of world opinion will censure USA. End result; USA bad guys, China good guys. Game over. China wins and takes over world leadership. Not going to happen in my lifetime but I do believe it will happen - in that sort of fashion.

Well, that's my first post done !

It's certainly not anything like a F-117. The Russians reverse engineered a American B-29 into the Tu-85, and that was the late '40's(en.wikipedia.org...). The Chinese are famous for reverse engineering everything from cars to xbox's. I think that it's more likely they have some samples of Radar Absorbent Material from Bosnia and Pakistan and a photo of the F-22 and are guessing/improvising at all the rest. China has more than enough money to develop new technology, new for them. They have a surples of money and no debt, they're thinking it's time to step up to the big leagues.

Lets not forget about their Anti-Ship ballistic missile's, the DF-21D en.wikipedia.org... . Effectively neutralizing our carriers if they are as effective as they say.

Noshir Gowadia was an Indian Engineer in the country of India. Northrup Grumman hired him to build the B-2 bomber and work on other stealth projects. Brought him in with one of those Visa's.

He gave the blueprints to the B-2 bomber to China, AND designed them a stealth cruise missile.

Noshir Gowadia got caught and went to trial for giving the US B-2 Bomber to China.

China didn't steal Stealth, it was handed to them.

Their new stealth fighter looks like the YF-23...the plane Congress SHOULD have made. IT would have had the capabilities of the F-111, long range & fast PLUS stealth. For the Pacific Ocean you need a big plane to carry fuel for long range.

The F-35 for example is the worst design ever thought up for military use in the Pacific Ocean...it has NO range. Throw some drop tanks on a F-22 and it loses it stealth.

The YF-23 would have been an excellent Pacific Ocean stealth fighter....instead China made one of their own.
