Thanks blupblup. I couldn't remember, but I had saved it. I used it once before, when I found it ironic that just years prior, Qaddafi was still part of the clique, before they killed him.......

Analysts say the vote has wide implications for the whole eurozone. Mr Hollande has vowed to rework a deal on government debt in member countries.

The socialist candidate has promised to raise taxes on big corporations and people earning more than 1m euros a year.

He also wants to raise the minimum wage, hire 60,000 more teachers and lower the retirement age from 62 to 60 for some workers.

Socialist Francois Hollande wins French presidency

France is screwed.

Why does this sound familiar?

Hmmm. . . . . . . . . . . .

Cause it sounds like the lies you pin on Obama every other day?

I guess you hear Obama proposing a rate cut in corporate taxes as a rate increase?

Sarkozy loses election

This is NOT to incite a political flame war but... historically, there are modern examples of how Europe and the US swing at opposite ends of the political pendulum. When the US goes one way, Europe goes the other. France has now moved to the left... which could mean the US is about to inch to the right and elect the Republican candidate in November...

I recommend 1980/81 with Ronald Reagan and François Mitterrand as one example.

This move will bring down the euro even faster because the left will turn back the cuts, let more immigrants in and piss the right off even more.

So you think the euro will tank faster?

I'd almost guess that it'd be stronger because the eurozone would have a yes-man. . . . though Sarkozy was in tight with Germany's leader.

That will be fun! The right wing in some parts of Europe are already starting to wear
funny uniforms and boots like they use to

This is one of the few threads we get here about France & French politics.

So could all you Obama haters kindly piss off back to USA-land and a thread of your own ?

It's not much to ask really. It's not like the ENTIRE FRIGGING FORUM isn't dominated by the USA and it's retard politicians.

The election of this socialist is going to cause the most enormous economic ructions. Some of his policies are utter lunacy, increasing corporation taxes will just drive business to other parts of EU. Taxing richer people to the hilt will just make them move away from France ... to UK, for example (like me haha). Cutting the retirement age to 60 ... while nations like UK put theirs UP to 68 ... how the hell will he pay for that ?

And ripping up the fiscal pact, OMG the guy is off his head, the markets will self cremate when they re-open.

Disaster. Absolute disaster for France.

Still, withdrawing our troops from Afghan is a great thing ... can't come soon enough.

Having said that, Sarko was a malicious, poisoned little dwarf. Good riddance to him too.

I have been doing overlays of 1980 with 2012 for months now. There are some parallels between the two and this French election corners in at the same angle so...

... who knows?

NOTE: I am NOT an Obama hater even if I don't vote for him. I was merely pointing out some historical similarities.

Thanks for not shooting.

Sorry,if I offended you in anyway. I can only put my perspective,on Frances, while comparing it to my own Country.

I feel for your Country actually. So,I have some questions.Do you believe the Eurozone has been a complete failure, and who else would you have put in power,if you had your choice ? Also, is the climate in France,on full boil?

Thanks.....

To those French people who pride themselves on their countries cultural and proud history, you have my sympathies as it looks like a traitorous sellout was just elected that will more than likely drive your beautiful country into the ground. If things get bad enough this might spark some kind of civil uprising and I fear that true patriotic people of France will have no way to defend themselves.

stop crying. obviously you're one of the losers, since the majority of your country wants change.

it could be because they've been left off the gravy train for the last 5 years and this guy promised the worst off in your country a ride before it leaves town.

if sarkozy and the rest of the world leaders weren't such selfish pieces of garbage and just shared a little, or even acknowledged their existence, they'd still be in power.

So now that Sarkozy is out will the war on Africa end? Will the propaganda pushing MeK end? We can hope but only time will tell.

Bye-bye Sarko! Actually this should be very interesting indeed. Sarko was Markel's biggest ally. I think that the insanity of extreme fiscal austerity is about to go away.

And I better get them all here, because the arabs will be doing exactly that (Maghreb being much closer, they can drive on up).

Actually, that was a Sarkozy promise back in 2007 but people have a very short memory span, don't they ?
You are distorting facts in a strange way, things won't be as you put them.
The debate was about allowing vote to the local elections (aka, elect the town mayor) for people that have been living here and paying their taxes for a set amount of years.

But I can't blame you for falling victim to the propaganda as the only arguments were that kids would be forced to eat halal food at school and swimming pools would have reserved times for women wearing veils.

I live in France, I have French nationality, and now I am screwed too.

Like the people you are defending always say : if you are not happy, you are free to leave.
And if paying more taxes scares you, you can leave too.
And if you don't pass grammar tests or can't sing the national anthem, you can leave too.

This guy is an idiot, (even besides being a Socialist). He is busy promising that government is going to give everyone more money, and they can work less, and all eat cotton candy and ride unicorns.

If you say so ... I am not that intimate with the guy, besides he's just another neo-liberal like your former champion, so what can really change ?

At a time when the economic situation is this bad, and we really needed someone with strong shoulders to deal with the euro crisis, and we really needed to tighten the belt on spending... we get this guignol.
I can't even imagine him meeting with Merkel and Obama....

Now that is funny... the guy increased our debt by 600 billions... But maybe when you mean strong shoulders, you mean at least 3 ministers having their holydays paid by dictators before the arab spring, selling software to Kaddhafi for spying on insurgents, betraying "Gaulism" by joining NATO............

Merkel means nothing, she has been put there by a coalition, she has no real power.
And about meeting with Obama, I doubt Hollande can beat that :

Wonder where the 20% of votes for the neo-nazis went ? they went to your favorite dude. Good thing he lost.

France was always to the left, so Hollande getting in is no big surprise. Le Pens voters went to Sarkozy? Thats a surprise as she told her voters not to bother voting. Guess they didnt listen to her. How this will play out, is any one guess. But I think the Euro is goosed now. Without France, Germany is on its own. Gemans trying to push a euro state? History repeats its self again.

Sorry, but Hollande is the first Socialist President since Mitterand in the 1980's. The others since then have been right-wing.

Hi to all

As I'm french also I just want to add one "little" thing :

I'm not talking about the fact Mr François Hollande is a socialist and the fact that now France is going to be ruled by the left wing after François Mitterand did it in 1981...
I just want to share with you two things :
First in the only TV debate we had between Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande during the second tour , Hollande said our country's debt is about 600 billions euros...Sarkozy said he was wrong and talked about 500 billions euros...And for 2013 , our official agency for statistics (INSEE) said the debt will be around 505 billions euros...So Hollande was 100 billions away...
Second , François Hollande is at the head of the general council in Corrèze ( n°19 department in France) since 2008...The debt in this department raised about 21% since this year...

Can we (french people) sincerely believe in that man to stop major crisis in our country?

P.S : As I discover and read the reply just above from Chrysalis , I just see again this 600 billions country's debt reference...Sorry to that again but INSEE made an estimation about 505 billions for 2013...Just check by yourself
