"BEFORE this century is over billions of us will die and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic where the climate remains tolerable." Had any centre-right political or religious leader made such a prophecy in 2006 they would have been ridiculed from one end of the planet to the other -- especially if they followed it up with a book entitled The Vanishing Face of Gaia: A Final Warning: Enjoy It While You Can.

it's refreshing when someone can admit they were wrong.

I suppose I should read the link before posting, but it's refreshing when someone can admit they were wrong.
Here’s what he says, as reported by MSNBC:
“The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened,” Lovelock said.
“The climate is doing its usual tricks. There’s nothing much really happening yet. We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now,” he said.
“The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium. Twelve years is a reasonable time… it (the temperature) has stayed almost constant, whereas it should have been rising -- carbon dioxide is rising, no question about that,” he added.
This is exactly the kind of stuff that gets reasonable people denounced as the equivalent of “Holocaust deniers” by the enraged primitives of the global-warming cult. Later in the MSNBC interview, Lovelock says “I’m not a denier,” even though he did, in fact, just deny the whole rotten anthropogenic global warming con job.

Australia, which produces 1.4 per cent of the world's carbon emissions, has no reason to inflict disproportionate hardship on itself.

What ongoing extinction event are you referring to?

I'm not sure how us layman without access to all the data can determine the facts. We have big money on the Green side pushing things like carbon tax and failed ventures such as Solyndra. We have big money on the side of Oil and other Corporations that don't want to be held accountable for environmental destruction. There's claims that both sides have paid for data to be manipulated in their favor.
The only thing I can say 100% is that it doesn't hurt anything to be greener, to leave less of a mark or to be more environmentally responsible. But it could be harmful to be less responsible and most likely is.

I remember reading about some emails wikileaks got their hands on regarding "climategate" essentially saying that certain scientists in that field actually manipulate data, or only show findings that support the idea of climate change, and shun the findings that say otherwise. Makes me angry to know that my country only produces 1.4 per cent of global emissions, yet we get taxed like we're the #1 villain.
