Of course, I also stumbled across this forum, but have been reading it ever since.

Yes, it is a flagging free for all. Personally, I flag every story, just to keep it interesting. It is, you know, the only way to win the contest.

You got a lot of writing talent, so I hope to see a few more entries from you.

New to this forum.
Not so new to writing.

Will return the flags, and also comment. Some great stories so I'll bump some on occasion as well just so others can read them.

Appreciate the complement. Writing fiction seems more personal sometimes than pontificating on current events.

Writing fiction is a nice break from the incessant bombardment of doom and gloom. Honestly, I've read a lot of your comments on ATS, and you are well respected as a solid and slightly humorous contributor.

Yes, it can. Any form of writing is acceptable.

So just a question for the uninitated, other than competition wins, how does one go about achieving writer status on an avatar? Is is just a question of posting enough stories on here, or is there no other way?

Good question.

There are a number of ways. One is to be asked by other writers who are involved in a collarative effort like the Space Opera. But you have to be vetted by those members first and then they should contact a mod to ask for the status. You see, the only use for writer status is that it gives access to a closed forum for writers only.

Another way is to write plenty of good stories and get noticed by other writers. Eventually, the call will go out for inclusion in the Collaborative forum.

And then there's the contests, where three members will be awarded the status.

Good luck to everyone. I've read just about every entry so far and I liked pretty much all of them. I swear we should write a book....

Here's my entry - Crazy Sweaty Starseed Monkey Sex.

Be warned, not only is it not full of hot raunchy interspecies sex scenes, but it is also fairly long (and may or may not contain a little poetry - please don't hold it against me).

My advice - dim the lights, pour two glasses red, gather the missus and put on some light tribal beats......... and enjoy the read
