More than 50 firefighters were this afternoon tackling an enormous fire at Carvers in Wolverhamtpon as billowing smoke forced the closure of the city's railway station and caused traffic chaos on a section of ring road.

alot of people have had to be evacuated from the area surrounding carvers builders merchants in the west midlands.This could be very bad for the west midlands alot of people have lost there jobs due to this fire.Carvers has been in this area for 116 years and provided alot of local jobs, this is devasting news for this area.

It isn't necessarily over for Carvers, They were well insured. Lets hope they get back up and running soon. This region really doesn't need more bad news

Prime example why buildings like this should have a functioning fire sprinkler system.

In a recent report it was calculated that the UK wastes 9 billion litres of water a year fighting business fires - the equivalent of five times the UK's entire annual bottled-water consumption.

Even with having insurance, many companies never recover from something like this. The insurance company will want a full investigation into the cause. This and other processes means that the owner may not see a penny for many years.

Thats very true they have enough people out of work and not enough jobs without adding to the numbers, i feel bad for all those people that have now lost there jobs due to this fire.

In addition to the origonal op , i had heard that carvers was going bankrupt, i cant find any proof of this at the moment, just seems odd that a fire breaks out just before they were going bankrupt.
