i did a search and the only thing that came up was from years ago regarding stephen hawking.
ats thread

i'd like to open with 2.
an american most of you are most likely familiar with.
nicolai tesla, and for the second, i'm going with the dude who invented fire.
eventhough he/she most likely grunted for a language, ya' all would be wearing animal skins while living in a cave eating raw meat.

hey mods, i really didn't know where to put this, figured 'people' was close enough.

the smartest human ever would be Jesus. He had to speak in dumbed down parables for us to understand. and even then, 2000 years later we still don't get it.

i like it, but can you prove he actually existed?

can you prove socrates existed. no one denies his existence, yet there is absolutely no written evidence he did, and the only mention of him is thru the writings of his pupil, plato, 400 years before Jesus was born.

and unlike socrates, there are numerous testaments written about Jesus in His lifetime.

Grigory Perelman is the smartest man in the world.

He actually solved the Poincaré conjecture,
which had eluded every mathematician
on the planet for a hundred years.

You may have heard of it.

Here is a Russian Woman talking about him.

He refused the $1,000,000 fields medal for his acheivement.
He has shut out the world and refuses all interviews and monies.
He lives with his mom.
And like most mathematicians he looks like a wookie.

Someone did manage to get footage of him.

But the man is real, the math works,
they are already folding 10 dimensional spheres
using his methodology in the field of Topology.

David Grouchy

This is a comedian explaining the Poincaré conjecture.

Ugh, Steven Hawking is not smart. He would have never came up with the theories and equations that are the basis of all of his work. The ONLY reason Hawking is a household name is because he's crippled. He really isn't that intelligent.

By smart and intelligent, I mean smart enough to be considered in the smartest man of all time conversation. Of course he's intelligent, but I can think of 100 people who were smarter than him, and came up with very original theories, scientific or otherwise, ahead of their time. The things Hawking has come up with are only logical given our advancements in the past 100 years. TBH, they should have been created 50 years ago. He's way behind his time.

The smartest human of all time was probably smart enough to stay quiet.

Yup, question answered.

I would have to say Carl Sagan. He was a way out there beyond the cosmos type of person. Yeah I would say he was the smartest.

i added the fire dude just to try and show that basing this on i.q. and geniuses may not be the only test.
genius list.

Fair question.

It depends on what the word 'proof' means to the reader.
His discovery is probably way above our pay grade.
Luckily I know a Topologist so let me see if I can
give an example that is relevant to us.

Take the "singularity" an event speculated on here at ATS in the past.
According to Grisha, if space time is spherical then a singularity is possible,
but if space time is a toroid then a singularity will never happen in the whole.

(also I've found it very useful in my simulations of cosmogony)

From a theoretical standpoint, hard to say but from a practical vantage, I would have to say Tesla. I have originals of many of his books and they are just fantastic.

Cheers - Dave

My vote is Going for Tesla. Is he the Smartest? I dunno, but as far as I'm concerned, he is the smartest person I know of.

According to this Pravda article he

Claims he can control the Universe

The above-mentioned documentary is not going to be about Grigori Perelman's life. The film will be about the cooperation and the struggle between three major mathematical schools in the world: the Russian, the Chinese and the American ones. These three schools are the most advanced in the world in terms of the path of learning and the control of the Universe.

When asked why he refused from the prize of one million dollars, Perelman responded: "I know how to control the Universe. Why would I run to get a million, tell me?"

It's from back in April of this year.

Oh also,
here is the Fields Medal ceremony that he snubbed.

David Grouchy

The Perelman part starts at 2:30

At timestop 3:08 one can see the announcer is a bit thrown off
by the fact that people clap when he says that Gregori has declined the Fields Medal.

I've always considered Da Vinci to be the winner of this contest.

Marilyn Vos Savant holds the record for the highest IQ tested.

No one knows who the smartest person that ever lived is, but some psychologists believe that William James Sidis (235) reached the maximum capacity possible for a human. The same may apply for eg., the seer of visions, Emanuel Swedenborg, who was so intelligent that he turned mad in the later part of his life. In the Buzan's Book of Mental World Records, the highest IQ score ever attained is assigned to the history's greatest universal genius Leonardo da Vinci. The estimate is a nearly unbelievable adult IQ of 220.

unasked.com...

A long time ago I did a search on this and found a site where historians and Doctors judged the writings of historical figures, but I sadly have long since lost that link.
