Adam Reiss is a recent winner of the Nobel prize in physics. He and 2 others received the prize for their work in discovering that the expansion of the universe appears to be accelerating.

He was a guest on a public radio show in the US this morning. On Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me he was asked several questions including if it were possible to destroy the death star.

I do not have a transcript of the show, but he stated something similar to this.

NASA can rotate the Hubble telescope around to focus the Sun's energy onto the death star causing its immediate destruction.

This is from a Nobel prize winner.

His discussion of the issue can be found at this website where there is a recording of his discussion with the panel.

I listen to WW - DTM every week.

Haven't heard this week's show yet (will soon), but before I do....did he sound as if he meant it very, very wryly?

Edit....see the replies below. Well, time to listen....then my next favorite Saturday radio show..."Car Talk"!

I love the third half of that show the most........

(ooops....thought this was General Chit Chat. His son-in-law is Bob Loblaw.....)

This is very interesting coming from you, Stereologist.

I gather the comment was taken and spoken seriously then?

Maybe thats what happened to Comet Elenin?

The interview is hilarious Phage. Actually worth a listen. He's brilliant and as funny as the comedians on the panel.

With all of the jousting that takes place here I thought it might be nice to inject some levity. The Reiss interview is fun and interesting, and he can hold his own with the panel.
