ug. i deactivated my facebook last week. took forever, seriously... it asked for my password... then it showed pics of my friends with some sad little caption that said "so and so will miss you" ... then it wanted a captcha. i thought at any moment they were going to come strip my of my colors and scrub the tattoo on my back *snicker* - not really but it was a little "blood in, blood out" for me. LOL.

you know... i GET that they basically data mine... and they sell your information off to advertisers and all of that. and i GET it... it is a business. and i knew that the whole time i had a facebook. but what did it for me, was when they rolled out these changes, and they rendered any of your privacy settings that allow you to control what your friends can and cannot see. that just wasn't cool at all. fine. sell me to the highest bidder so they can try to sell me stuff. i accept that the internet has become one huge infomercial. But for the love of god, please let me have SOME control of what i share with my friends and family.

Once sad thing I did hear from a friend. that awful ticker they added that shows every comment you make, which no longer only shows that stuff to just the "mutual friends" you have with the person you comment, but rather shows them to everyone on your friend list... anyway, this guy is gay, but had not, nor was he ready to, "come out" to his family. the previous way that facebook was set up, was that you had a little control over who could see what you commented to others by tweaking your privacy settings a little.. you know, basically you could make midget porn jokes to your friend... and your grandma never saw it. Anyway, this guy had been able to make comments here and there to some of his gay male friends and not have to worry too much bout his family seeing it - you know... he had his privacy options set, and since they weren't "mutual friends" it didn't appear in everyone else's newsfeed. Enter the evil "ticker" - And since facebook was so vague about that thing, they just kind of rolled it out with no explanation (like that you have to BEG your friends to change their "subscription" options on YOU, so essentially you have to beg your friends to set your privacy options FOR you... individually.) - long story short, he was unaware of the full voodoo that is the ticker and he made a comment to a guy friend and the facebook ticker "outted" him to his family.

that is just awful in my book. and the Zuckerberg's can take their "complete transparency on the internet" crap and stick up their lilly white a$$es.- complete transparency, pshhh, are you kidding me? this coming from the guy who only made it on the internet by being a little data thief to begin with?
