Light reflecting inside the telescope optics, and diffracting off edges within the telescopes, can produce some interesting effects.
This latter effect is caused by diffraction off of the optical baffles

That explains the flash, but not how the comet has changed direction or how it has split into 2 pieces. Is it just coincidence that as soon as the comet hits the point on the camera of the lens flare that it breaks in two. There sure are a lot of coincidences from this comet. And anyway, I thought it had already broken up on the 27th, yet here you can clearly see it go from a single to a double.
