Twenty years is a very long time to be in isolation from one's own species. I could not imagine such a life as hers. I am happy she finally was reunited with her own kind. After two decades of isolation, Shirley was so desperate to be closer to Jenny that she bent those huge steel bars! That right there bears witness that animals feel love and have true emotions. She must have been so lonely during all of that time!

I imagine, hope, and pray that we humans come to more realistic understandings about all living creatures, and begin to have more love and compassion towards our animal brethren. Earth's beautiful living creatures all deserve freedom, habitat, and protection.

I should have posted a video of the tears coming from my eyes.

Thank you so much for nothing other than putting things back into perspective!

Aaww !! brought more than a few tears to my eyes....
elephants are amazing cretins....and i know what its like to say goodbye to an old friend
so i feel for solomon the guy who looked after her....

may they have happy days till the end

that was awesome.
They way they were holding each other with their trunks near the end was great to see.
Damn shame it took so long for her to see another elephant though.
I felt sorry for Solomon having to leave her,although its better for her to be with her own kind.

That was moving, wonderful, inspiring, and heartbreaking. Solomon made me happy for mankind. Shirley is beautiful and I love that elephant's eyes look so much like our own - a window to a soul.

Man as much as we like our zoo's, I do believe what we are doing to these animals is inhumane. Forcing any conscious creature into isolation is immoral and unethical in my opinion.

nice example of social behaviour.... what happend to oure human skills.....

I actually saw this video yesterday and just loved it.
In joy, in pain, in the absolute wonder that miracles sometimes happen and it couldn't of happened to a nicer pair.
What got me (like you) was in the end of the clip when they were touching each others chests - their trunks making a heart.
Wow, that was incredible.
