At a small, exclusive New York City fundraiser Thursday night featuring the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, Obama compared himself and his agenda to that of Martin Luther King Jr.

"And now that King has his own memorial on the Mall I think that we forget when he was alive there was nobody who was more vilified, nobody who was more controversial, nobody who was more despairing at times. There was a decade that followed the great successes of Birmingham and Selma in which he was just struggling, fighting the good fight, and scorned, and many folks angry. But what he understood, what kept him going, was that the arc of moral universe is long but it bends towards justice. But it doesn’t bend on its own. It bends because all of us are putting our hand on the arc and we are bending it in that direction. And it takes time. And it’s hard work. And there are frustrations."

This is absolutely disgusting and is just another example of this man's narcissism. Obama has absolutely nothing what so ever in common with Martin Luther King. Obama grew up in affulence, attended the best of schools, benefited from affirmative action, never worked or struggled a day in his life other than psuedo-psychological struggles that were self inflicted.

King was a giant of a man, born into poverty, struggled for basic human rights. King was a selfless patriot, who while working to right wrongs in society, understood the inherent good in people. Obama is a small-minded political operator who is pushing a political agenda.

That Obama would even suggest that the opposition of racists towards King is in anyway related to the opposition against his political agenda is offensive and delusional.

I don't see him comparing himself to King. He is comparing the struggle King had with Civil Rights to his struggle of fixing the economy in the sense that they both take time to develop but one must stay at it.

There is enough to blame on Obama without having to read between the lines looking for ways to condemn him.

The clear objective of his statement is to compare himself and his struggles with those of King.

He goes so far as to start with the bit about the memorial to King (a subtle suggestion that he too will be deserving of such an honor).

He then goes on to equate the opposition to his petty political agenda to the massive struggle for human rights that King led.

You don't need to look too deep to see the direct inference in what he was saying.

Now if Obama had a history of being a humble person, in touch with others and his surroundings, you might give him a pass. That of course is not the case. The gent is the least humble person to hold the office since FDR.

He was making a direct link between King's agenda and his own, therefore attaching a moral component to his agenda. The goal obvious - to make those who support him feel as if they are supporting some moral crusade.

Absurd and disgusting and not surprising. It is the kind of thing that desperate folks do.

King Jr. was Republican. King Sr was... ?
Thanks JFK for "fixing" the Democrat party into what is is now... as if it even resembles what JFK was.

My head reels when considering what Democrats have done to fix [corrupt] the system over the past 50 years.

An insult to the memory of King and his battle, and what he was about.

The horse-manure that comes from our beloved chief's mouth lately, seems to truly know no boundaries.

Unfortunately, there's no shortage of brain dead zombies who eat it up like candy.

Unbelievable and sickening.

What a slap in the face to Dr. King! Obama, with His forged BC, His glad-hand for the public and His nefarious back room works - is like MLK.

Obama is just as an elite as the rest, and no MLK, that's for sure!

Completely obsurd.

Obama is as much MLKjr as Clinton was JFK.

MLKjr and JFK were more Repubican (MLKjr was actually registered Republican) in action than Democrat.

And don't tell anyone that Republicans pulled us out of Vietnam.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Humble people don't need to compare themselves with great men/women of the past. It is demonstrated in their actions and don't need or want recognition. If one has to point out how they're like some "hero" and/or how their actions are similar, they are lacking in the morality department and are trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Obama should remember that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery and start walking the walk.
