The survey by AptiQuant, a Vancouver-based Web consulting company, gave more than 100,000 participants an IQ test, while monitoring which browser they used to take the test. The result? Internet Explorer users scored lower than average, while Chrome, Firefox and Safari users were slightly above average. And users of the more obscure Camino and Opera browsers, as well as those using Explorer with Chrome Frame (a plug-in designed to let users view emerging HTML5 content), had what AptiQuaint called "exceptionally higher" IQ levels.

Internet Explorer 6 users apparently got the lowest IQ score of all.

So, which browser do you use?
Obviously I use Arora with a specialist Flock plug in and a K-meleon frame myself

makes sense. if you buy a computer and IE is already there, why (in their mind) should you change browsers.

Reminds me of a tweet I saw last night. It was about people hurt while on Safari and how they might have wished they stayed with Firefox.

Interesting though I would have expected Safari users to be much lower considering the consumerist ploy they're drawn into and all the while permit themselves to be indoctrinated by. If you haven't encountered an Apple zealot, it's pretty much apparent and one of the better examples there is to be found on social engineering as practiced by Bernaze or [Anna] Freud. Surely, the said targeted technological hipsters that psychologically crave being a composite of "unique" and "superior" peerage to escape the pains of their own mediocrity implies lower cognitive function. Please note that I'm referring to a subgroup within the Apple market rather than the whole.

Surely free thinking individuals with the capacity to think for themselves and identify obvious marketing ploys and attempts at crude social engineering would boast a higher IQ.

For the brighter ATS members, consider whose interest would it be in to engineer, steer and/or doctor the cultivation of the extrapolated mean averages. Think in terms of lobbying. Hypothetically I'd imagine that it's either of the top four generating a controversy sufficient enough to outdo their "less intelligent" competitor(s).

What's your qualm with Hotmail? What for you, represents the apex in hosted email accounts?

LOL you know my argument on this. You were there when I was arguing it.

I use IE because no one has convinced me otherwise.

People who use Firefox, Chrome, or whatever else is out there - would likely come up a little "smarter" because they KNEW there was an option. If the masses are using IE.... well we all know how low the average IQ is. Its an inaccurate test at best - and they even say so in the article.

I am aware of many, many services - but I never use anything that someone says "is better" without giving me a good reason to why its better.

So far the only good argument I got was the "open source" one - which still leans into "preference" - it has no effect (or affect?) on me, and I don't like to install things that I have no use for.

BTW - I use AOL email. Why can't I? I've had the same email for 12 years.... why should I change it?

I would have to agree.
I've never met a truly intelligent IE user. lol
Everyone I know who *still* uses IE..
are practically computer/technology illiterate.

It's getting to be the same for microsoft/windows users in general.
one of MS's main goals is to dumb things down for , well..... "the dumb"..
So no one has a clue what they're actually doing anymore.
Just "click, click, click" is all most people know.

This also helps MS make more $$$$ off of the gullible/ignorant.

Something goes wrong with their computer?
PAY US, "we'll "fix" it"
Computer not running great? "uhp, must be time for a new one!"

MS is a huge culprit in the dumbing down of people.
It is in their M.O.

Excuse me but I can build a system from the ground up with spare parts and I use internet explorer. If I wanted to, I'm smart enough to build my own browser, my own addons, whatever I want. I don't need anything prepackaged.

On the very rare few occassions that I did get a virus on my system (malware/spyware/trojan) I was able to manually clean it out BY MYSELF without the aid of an antivirus of any kind.

I have both Firefox and Chrome installed on my system, and as a preference, I load IE every time.

There is absolutely no reason for me to use either of the other browsers at this time.

What was your point again? Telling me I'm stupid because I use IE with absolutely nothing to back it up, just makes you look stupid.

While I will agree that the majority of internet people are of AVERAGE intelligence, that would ONLY be because so many people are online now. Rewind 15 years, and no matter what browser you used, you were either really smart, or rich enough to pay a $900 phone bill.

From the Article

Those numbers, it should be noted, probably aren't very scientific. The field of test-takers was self-selecting -- people who chose, on their own, to take an IQ test instead of a scientifically selected study group. They found the test through Web searches or ads the company placed online.

lol, you mad?
No need to take it personally.
Just because I, (as I said), "have not met any intelligent IE users"
Doesn't mean they aren't 'out there'.
Just that I have not met them.

No one called you "stupid" except for yourself.

"There's no need to use a different browser" you say...
Which clearly tells me that you are not aware of the "pros" of using something better than IE,
and are not aware of the "cons" of using IE.

Whatever,
use what you like.

and don't take things soo damn personal, specially if they aren't directed at you.

You're right and I apologize
You didn't call me out and it took the other thread for me to realize I was being overly defensive.

The article is misleading however, and the first time the topic came up I was accused of "trolling"..... go figure.

So yes, I am sorry ♥

No worries. Thanks.
and I apologize for offending you.
It was not my intention to offend anyone.
Though sometimes my words do come out a bit.. "harsher" or more "abrasive" than I'd like them to.
Sorry about that. ♥

So a persons knowledge of computers is a direct reflection on thier intelligence? For most people, their use of IE is simply a matter of convience suitable to their use of the internet. There is no need for anything beyond IE as it serves it's purpose well enough. I could say the same thing in reverse, that most people who I know that use Firefox or Chrome, or Safari, only use them as a means to feel more accepted winthin an online community, but that would be purely speculation.

It's getting to be the same for microsoft/windows users in general.

In the computer world, to "dumb down" would be a means of simplifying something, which is what MS is. It's a simple system for simple people. Again, unless it's your job, what more do the average persons need to know besides "click, click, click". It serves it's purpose well enough.

This also helps MS make more $$$$ off of the gullible/ignorant.

Something goes wrong with their computer?

Thats why Apple has more money than the Government right now? Most people can buy or build a PC, and keep it running for several years with occasional upgrades and system cleanings. For those who can't, they prefer to buy a Mac product use it for a year until the new verison comes out and then go buy that one. They never crash or break because they don't have time to.

In the end, it's all just a matter of preferance. It has no reflection on a persons intelligence. I mean, after all, this was a survey done on people willing to take an online IQ test. We're not exactly getting the greatest cross section of minds here.
