Just bought 'Stone Mattress' by Magaret Atwood...haven't had a chance to delve in, but the first few sentences of the first story are captivating;

"The freezing rain sifts down, handfuls of shining rice thrown by some unseen celebrant. Wherever it hits, it crystallizes into a granulated coating of ice. Under the streetlights it looks so beautiful; like fairy silver, thinks Constance.

I'm hooked!

Read the Dark Tower series. You will not be sorry. There's a short story called Little Sisters of Eluria that fits somewhere in it and also The Wind Through the Keyhole. All in all, the series is an excellent read. You'll see references to it in a lot of his work if you look. They all kind of blend together, world within world without end.

I've been looking for Lucifer's Hammer for the longest time after reading and excerpt in an anthology. I heard it was out of print; although I saw it on Amazon. I might treat myself some time. How is it, by the way?
I loved Swan Song. His other work is great, too.
