5.4 is not that big .. I recently looked up earthquake rankings and how often they occur in the world.... 4's occur every week on average in populated areas over the world

the number below represents it's strength on the richter scale .. each level is 10 times the strength of the previous level.. I describe how often they occur in the world, and how often they occur in populated areas ( on average )

1 - occurs daily, or every minute in populated areas
2 - occurs daily, or every hour in populated areas
3 - occurs daily, or every day in populated areas
4 - occurs daily, or once a week in populated areas
5 - occurs monthly, or every 10 years in populated areas
6 - occurs monthly, or every 30 years in populated areas
7 - occurs monthly, or every 50 years in populated areas
8 - occurs yearly, or every 100 years in populated areas
9 - occurs yearly, or every 300 years in populated areas
10 - occurs rarely, or about every thousand years in populated areas

Point is earthquakes are common occurrence.. and very cyclical in nature and some areas have them more rapidly in their cycle.. this is just world average.. Japan for example has major earthquakes every 20-30 years if I remember correctly.. California shares a somewhat similar cycle

Why do people keep insisting that all this increase in Earthquake activity is 'normal'?

5.4 must have some kind of impact on a populated areas.....I myself am beginning to think that there is an increase in the amount of high magnitude earthquakes....
