In the wake of the Japanese Earthquake and Nuclear dilema they are facing in regard to nuclear meltdown at the reactors, I was made aware of a "new" (if you can call it that) alternative fuel source for humanities energy needs that could transform the future if only the Powers that be would have humanities best interest in mind and not the dollar.

That energy source is Thorium

The benefits of using a Thorium reactor are immense, hard to find any negatives with using it and the technology has been available for decades.....the safety of using Thorium means a runaway nuclear meltdown is impossible and you cannot weaponise it so developing countries could benefit as well.....meaning no Iran issues or other geo-political concerns. Read on......

Thorium Energy Alliance

Benefits of Thorium Reactors

-Thorium is a natural occurring element found on earth, the moon, mars... essentially everywhere.

-A thorium-fueled nuclear reactor generates hundreds of times the power as a uranium or coal power plant but produces essentially no waste.

-thorium power plant would produce much less than 1% of the waste that a uranium plant of equal magnitude produces and, of course, would produce no carbon dioxide.

-More importantly, while the waste of a uranium power plant is toxic for over 10,000 years, the little waste that is produced in a thorium plant is benign in under 200 years.

-Even more impressive, the thorium power plant can be used to burn our current stockpile of nuclear waste.

-The thorium power plant cannot "melt down",

-Thorium cannot practically be used to make nuclear weapons.

-There is enough thorium in the United States alone to power the country at its current energy level for over 10,000 years, and the thorium power plant can be designed to be a plug and play module that could tap right in at the source of a current coal or uranium plant so there would be no need for laying a new grid.

Here's a Youtube Video on the benefits of Thorium-

Thorium Energy Future

And another on how the reactor would work -

Thorium Reactor

Mods - I couldn't find a youtube number to inbed the video links properly, if you could help much appreciated.

So why won't the powers that be consider it? Because I think it would damage their geo-political plans, and enslavement of the masses through debt/high energy costs and cost of living.

The Chinese 'weaponised' the Thorium extracted from sand mined at Kurnell in Sydney Australia.

They said that the Thorium was going to be used in the creation of "mantles" for oil and kerosene lamps but in truth, it was used to kick start their nuclear industry.

Unfortunately even Thorium can be misused.

Searchengine would have given you tons of threads
discussing this allready...subtile but there...

But i DO agree...Its way better then solar, wind or water....

This has to be taken over by the mass media!

I am going to try to send it to a Dutch news website..

It's no secret and several countries have plans in progress for development, including India and Canada. Others are thinking about them, such as the US and Norway and have active research projects.

fusion fission Hybrid plants can also use thorium depleted uranium or spend reactor fuel.

These reactor burn up the fuel and do not require reprocessing to increase fuel life.

They also auto shutdown as soon as the fusion reaction stops and need no outside cooling.
en.wikipedia.org...
www.utexas.edu...

We have enough depleted uranium or spend reactor fuel.for 100= of years of operation.

90% of the carbon produced in mining has already been spent if using depleted uranium or spend reactor fuel.

Only thorium would need to be mined and produce CO2 in amounts from the mining and processing.

As a kid, I lived within walking distance of those sandhills at Kurnell and they were massive dunes that we used to ski down on home-made sandskis. The area was like the Sahara back then and even desert movies were made there because of that. But these days no-one's going to be extracting much Thorium or anything else because those hills are now gone pretty much down to sea level, removed by sand-mining companies for the purpose of making concrete. So much sand has been taken from there that Kurnell is at risk of becoming an island in extreme weather and all it happened over a couple of decades and whatever Thorium there was is now evenly distributed over much of the southern Sydney suburbs - strange that no-one ever reported elevated background radiation in their driveways and footpaths.
