In the video below, Jesse Jackson, Jr., U.S. House representative for Illinois’s 2nd congressional district, calls for adding rob Peter to pay Paul amendments to the Constitution. According to Mr. Jackson, you are entitled to a house, a decent job, food, etc., and your kids are entitled to iPods and laptop computers.

In oratory fashion (and hyperbole) inherited from his father, Jackson cites a speech delivered by FDR more than sixty years ago. In the speech, FDR declared the original Bill of Rights “inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness” and he proposed an “economic bill of rights.

Under FDR’s scheme, the government would provide useful and remunerative jobs, the right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation, the right of farmers to raise and sell products at a return which will provide a decent living, the right of every family to a decent home, the right to adequate medical care, the right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment, and also the right to an education.

And our grand Liberals show there true colors of ignorance! You want people to have the right to a lap top, get a job! Earn it, nothing should be given!

I fear you may find yourself in limited company on ATS.... there's a lot of, umm, socialists on this site....I for one am with you. I don't want but one thing from anybody else,(including the fed gov) and that is to be left alone. Just because a federal law says it's ok to take my money to give to someone else doesn't make it ethical. Legal doesn't equal moral.

And for the record.. i make less than 35,000 a year. And i'm not a conservative. Probably closer to a libertarian.

The intentions of our founding fathers were to give us the freedom to pursue out happiness, happiness was not guaranteed to us, and it never should be. If you want something you must work for it and sometimes this work requires doing hard labor or long hours. I should not be surprised to read this coming from a Socialist who hides behind the label of ‘Liberal’.

What I want is the government off my back so I can pursue my own independent happiness. They will argue “what about the poor?” well please tell me what about myself? A family of 4 on $10,000 a year income is not poor today? What I want is to be left to make my own way in life, rise or fall, not have your bureaucratic socialist nanny state ‘equality’ at the expense of my liberty. If I succeed and become a wealthy millionaire or billionaire then I want to keep my rewards of success, but if I fail and end up living in a card board box at least I can say when I die that I gave it my best try.

Liberty is what is at stake here. Every tax penny taken from me infringes on my personal liberty. I come from the school where you accept your responsibilities and don't expect others to provide liberty for you. This current crop has been given from teet to now and expect more because so and so has something and are told it's not fair if you don't get the same. The government is completely out of control. Obama just signed an executive order that he as the CIC can declare someone in gitmo even if found not guilty to be held in jail until he deems fit. How soon until that starts occuring in the US to everybody? He is not king.

Often times when a man is experiences the 'Ittus after a 2 hour l lunch at the Golden Carrel.I would like to submit the theory that Democratic Jesse Jackson, Jr.’s was under the influence of the 'Ittes when he wrote this bill. I ask the members of this forum not to forsaken this Baptist man, who just so happens to hail from a city full of corruption. For all of us, at one time or another, have succumbed to the 'Ittus. The cure for this is as simple as not eating for 2 hours strait, and not having everything in your life handed to you because of name sake,
