articles.chicagotribune.com...

Two state agencies are locked in a battle over whether the names of registered gun owners should be made available to the public.
this is from Illinois, just one state but as the saying goes it just takes one.

On the opther hand, maybe people would look at who isarmed and NOT rob them.

So why would they need to gun owners info. made public in the first place?

The article did not mention any reasons for this. I'll side with the State Police on this one....which is something I rarely say.

Exactly, cops and robbers will target the people with firearms last. Only thing is I would go as far to say almost half of gun owners are not registered gun owners, most weapons are acquired outside the regular markets.

They could also know from hunters that purchase hunting licenses. I'm sure the DNR state offices know every person who hunts must also have a gun. I've come to the conclusion that there is no privacy; it's an illusion. A person would have to live completely off the grid from birth on.

If they are making the records public, wouldn't that help the CSA come in to collect guns? I don't know the laws of other states but here in Texas we undergo a background check, a phone call, and a signature. It's crazy how you can buy many of shotguns or rifles as you want but have to wait weeks at a time just to get pistols back to back.

well not like this, DNR will only show if you buy a Hunting Lin nor what type this says any one with a gun in the STATE, type and how many you own, like i said all it takes is just one.

All they need to do is repeal all the laws requiring you to register a gun as well as any laws forbidding you to carry. Then you can see all the gun owners, they will have them on their hips.

Right, I understand but I know someone who has only purchased guns/rifles from private parties and has never officially registered any. The assumption could be made from someone buying a hunting license that they must have a gun. Probably a little far fetched, but just a thought.

YES YES

Lets tell all the criminals what houses to by pass!

I am sure this is what is behind it.

After all The government does not want all those crack heads killed since the use them to STEAL your wealth and then they take it from the robbers....

Government robbery by proxy!

...Over $7 billion has been forfeited to the federal government since 1985....

...The Double-Edged Sword undercover researcher observed agencies abandon investigations of suspects they knew were trafficking large amounts of contraband simply because the case was not profitable. Agents routinely targeted low level dealers rather than big traffickers, who are better able to insulate themselves and their assets from reverse sting operations. The report states: "Efficiency is measured by the amount of money seized rather than impact on drug trafficking."

.... When asked why a search warrant would not be served on a suspect known to have resale quantities of contraband, one officer responded:

"Because that would just give us a bunch of dope and the hassle of having to book him (the suspect). We've got all the dope we need in the property room, just stick to rounding up cases with big money and stay away from warrants."

In one case an agency instructed the researcher to observe the suspect's daily transactions reselling a large shipment of coc aine so that officers could postpone making the bust until after the majority of the drug shipment was converted to cash. This case was only one of many in which the goal was profit rather than reducing the supply of drugs reaching the street....

So now you know the US govwernment WANTS the crooks stealing from you

Gun dealers could bounce the list off the phone book and then create a list of folks that don't own and have a mailing list for potential customers.

Seriously, this is just another attempt by the socialist to put a thumb on the population. Its a bad idea.

It is more of TPTB's divide and conquer methods.

Watch how corporations use the list to fire you or not hire you.....

You are right, The FOIA should only be used for public information, like what our government is actually doing, not what the population does privately. So I guess if they pass this under FOIA, then they need to also require registration and publication of every one who owns a computer, a shovel, and everything else.

Like I said before, this is just some more control freak activity. You can substitute what ever anti-freedom name you want for control freak. (IE globalist, socialist, TPTB, etc etc.)
