Well, I went searching for what characteristics a government should have to be label a fascist government.

When you put it into Google search just like that the first webpage you get is rense.com. When you click on it you’ll find an article written by a man called Dr. Lawrence Britt. In it is a list of fourteen characteristics of a fascism.

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:

Link- 14 Characteristics of fascism.

Number 1.

Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

Number 2.

Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

Number 3.

Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

Number 4.

Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

Number 5.

Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

Number 6.

Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

Number 7.

Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

Number 8.

Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

Number 9.

Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

Number 10.

Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

Number 11.

Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

Number 12.

Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

Number 13.

Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

Number 14.

Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Seems to be the general definition of fascist government. I was actually looking to see if the A.N.C.(African National Congress) can fall under this definition but I realized that America has just as many of the characteristics as my own government.

I'd say both score a 10 out of 14. In different areas,though.

Don't know about America as I don't live there but in Latvia maybe 3 out of 14 characteristics fit. So I guess we luckily are less fascist than USA.

Russia is fascist though. And Russian government is propagandizing that Latvia is a fascist state. Just because some Latvians fought in German not Russian side in WW-I and WW-II. For them everything that is anti-USSR is fascist.

Why is this even a question anymore. It is pretty obvious and any american with half a brain can see that it is so.
For those that dont think so, you are in denial. Pull yourself from the false reality that america is only a force for good.

"These are not the droids you're looking for"

Seriously, They can do whatever they want, as long as they promise you that they are not doing it.
Who are you gonna believe?
The government or
Your lyin eyes?
They love us unconditionally.
We do not suffer from mass stockholm syndrome.
Go back to work.
Go Shopping.
Everything is OK.

It may SEEM like we are living in a facist regime. We may fit the definition perfectly.
But rest assured,
These are not the droids you're looking for.

5and 11 don't apply as there many women in government now and more getting in all the time. Not 50% yet but on it's way. Many more females at the local level.See power monger thread.
As for the intellectuals they pay them to say what they want to put forth as the latest propaganda.Witness the crap about global warming that is refuted by nearly all scientists who aren't government funded.
So except for these points I'd say yeah they are fascist.I can't think of any way to refute the other points cause they are true.

Wow, the description of fascism seems to describe Fox and the Conservative Right party perfectly.

And I am strictly in center of the "left-right" categories and am not a Liberal by NO means whatsoever.

But DARN if this doesnt sound exactly like the Conservative Right and Fox news...

America(USA) is NOT Fascist. And don't use anti-fascist propaganda and definitions. To know what Fascism is, read the Outline of Fascism by Benito Mussolini.

The USA does not exhibit true Fascism(I wish it did), instead the USA is exploitive imperialistic capitalist, and liberal welfare state socialism. It's not Fascist, if it was, we'd be in better shape here.

I trust our government.
If they were a fascist regime I'm sure they would have told us by now.

Here's an article I saw once on Russia Today.

They know about it, it’s a new trend. America is going from what used to be the major capitalistic country in the world of free market – a crusader – into what Mussolini would have called fascism: the merger of state and corporate powers. So it is not socialism as people believe, it is socialism’s egalitarianism. It’s not communism where the state controls monopolies – it’s fascism, plain and simple. The merger of corporate and government powers. State-controlled capitalism is called fascism, and fascism has come to America in broad daylight.

Rest of the article here-American Lives In a Fascist State

Actually there's a whole bunch of articles on the web on American Fascism. Dating back to the years of the KKK up to now.
