State Sen. Robert Ford made his remarks during a Senate committee debate over an Arizona-style immigration law, eliciting a smattering of nervous laughter in the chamber after he said "brothers" don't work as hard as Mexicans. He continued that his "blue-eyed brothers" don't either.

Once his ancestors were freed from slavery, he said, they didn't want to do any more hard work, so they were replaced by Chinese and Japanese.

Well, I better stop here before I am accused of something.

In my experience, if you have to say, "let me stop here before I get accused of something.." you may have already gone too far.. or you may have a guilty conscious.

This is the kind of thinking and attitude that is destroying America People.

If you think I have said too much, then you think this asshat rep has said too much.

Now why on earth would he make that kind of comment during this debate.

Ford's comments came during debate on a proposal of a measure similar to one in Arizona that directs officers during a traffic stop or something similar to check the immigration status of people they suspect are in the country illegally. Producing a valid driver's license, passport or military ID would satisfy the query.

Unfortunate indeed. People need to learn how to put a cork in it sometimes.

I don't see why you guys can't post what you want to...let your opinions be known.

I'm actually a big supporter of immigrant rights...and think most "illegal" immigrants should be granted amnesty and those that want to come here to work should be allowed to with minimal restrictions.


Having said that...I think this guy is an idiot for saying what he did.

The man is simply stating the plain fact that everybody knows, but can't or won't admit.
Mexicans will will work harder than the "brothers" or the "blue-eyes." Please tell me where is the lie or contradiction in those words? Yeah, the truth hurts, but if you can't fact the facts, you go around making all sorts of excuses for why you can't look the problem squarely in the face.

I live in the Austin area. My son's work career has been distroyed by Mexicans, by and large illegals that simply get hired at a cheaper rate. And because they will work hard! Damn it, they are hungry, they have familes to feed back south of the border.

It is a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. But that guy spoke the plain truth but few want to hear it, black or white because it ain't politically correct. But business leaders with their feet on the ground were the first to get the clear perspective. Cheap labor that does the job they were hired for. There is no simple solution, ignoring doesn't help, it just festers.

Well I thought it was kind of obvious.

Saying a person "works harder" based on the color of their skin is an idiotic statement. The color of your skin (or nationality or the geographical location of your birth) doesn't determine your traits, whether those traits are good or bad.

Do you not think he is an idiot for making that statement?

For the purposes of this thread, it doesn't matter what I do or don't believe about that. My point was that during a discuss of that nature, this wound up saying what he did, which is kind of strange considering there should be someone facilitating the meeting and keeping it on track.

I have worked in construction for the last 20 years.
I have supervised sites with unions and non unions.
I have supervised sites without illegals and with illegals.

Here is the deal, the majority of those with illegals in their employ, pay these illegals per job completed. All they care about is the work completed. They do not CARE if it is done properly, they do not care about safety and to hell if they care what the workers make.

Illegal workers are driving down the labor pool. They are driving down the quality. Hell, I have worked where the inspectors are looking over things that would never be looked at, because the illegal market in labor.

You want to know why 50% of the costs in housing in the last few years? Because the inspectors from the government cannot TRUST ANYTHING built by illegal labor. You no longer have skilled labor you have unskilled labor doing EVERYTHING.

But who cares right?

Well, it's good to see that the Jessie and Al show haven't crucified him....yet. I wonder why they haven't? Hmm, I'm gonna try and think of a reason this isn't front page news with demands of all kinds from certain groups. Still thinking......I know, any moment they'll demand an apology and a fine and community service announcement...............nope. I guess this is just one more example of the double standard applied to race today and why it will never get better.

I haven't read any of the comments to this thread. However I will state what I always state to this state-ment.

It 'seems' that 'Mexicans' work "harder" than 'brothers/blue eyes' however... You're completely wrong.

At the same time, you are very right.


Here is the correct answer:

Poverty, small economies, large populations, below 1st world social structures & religion all play the key roles.

Not color.

Poverty brings appreciation, large populations stimulate enormous competition, small economies bring rationalism & resourcefullness, 2nd, 3rd world countries are typically religious due to frustration/lack of knowledge infrastructure & complete surrender.

*Oh, & they will basically eat _____ for a dime, to escape the state of their country.
All ingredients for the perfect worker. Relatively strong, appreciative, fast, competative, enduring & has the experience to put-up with just about anything.

Nope..not really...I agree that it is a racist statement . It's a "positive" racist statement...but still racist. "Positive" in a sense that it is more so giving a compliment to one specific race instead of hating on one specific race.

Hey, being a Libertarian, if the US would get rid of ALL the socialist systems, I would not care WHO was allowed to enter the US for work.

Problem is, those of us that work above board, have to compete with those that work in the black market.

Funny how the socialists, erm I mean Democrats/Progressives NEVER bring that component up. They have these ideas about unions and such, yet allow the black markets to underscore the legitimate businesses.

THEN they have the GALL to attack the businesses that have to use these tactics. Either EVERYONE follows the law or NO ONE does.

By the way, the black market is good in my opinion. But I will never use non citizens in my business. PERIOD. I actually CARE about my country where those that allow the criminal invaders to subvert our country.
