some excerpts of the declaration of independence that show americans haven't changed that much in over 200 years.

"He (the king) has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good."

well you got your wish, there have been so many laws passed "for the common good" that it has lead to the highest prison incarceration rate per capita in the world. all-time classics: slavery (the king must of lost his marbles not to pass that one), it's illegal to ride a camel on the highway (nevada), if you don't have 1$ in your pocket you can be arrested for vagrancy (illinois), animals are banned from mating within 1500 ft of a tavern, school etc. (california), drug laws and prohibition (created more criminals and prisoners than it prevented) etc... the list is endless.

"He (the king again) has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures."

this is a personal favorite. americans aren't lazy, they've always been lazy. no wonder there hasn't been any representation, ben franklin et al couldn't be bothered to get their fat butt's off the couch to go to any of them.
i can picture franklin saying to jefferson - "can you believe the king, he's called another meeting at 7 in the morning, my horse is sleeping, my wife's a pain, my kids wouldn't let me sleep, i ran out of wood, it's uphill and on top of that it rained. forget it, i'm not walking 45 mins across a muddy field and back." this is just whiny. if you're a british colony and going to england to take care of state affairs is unusual, then you should have your political head examined. take a pillow on your voyage and have some bacon and eggs when you get there.

"He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people."

obviously, no one showed up. it must of been lunchtime.

"He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands."

sound familiar, it should, ask any mexicans begging for a better life about obstruction of naturalization of foreigners and ask the native americans about conditions for appropriations of lands. what an evil king, trying to protect the indigenous people. the u.s. government has done 15x worse than the king has ever done to the colonists.

"He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance."

WHAT?! i would be embarrassed to include this as a reason for rebellion. can you imagine complaining to the king: a bunch of soldiers came to my house, ate all my chickens, all my eggs, all my potatoes, all my carrots, helped themselves to seconds and left a bunch of dirty dishes for my wife to clean. and on top of that, they helped themselves to the good cognac, smoked a cigar and pinched my wife's rear. the king was probably wiping away tears of laughter when he read that one.

"For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world"

america's no.1 at imposing economic and trade sanctions on foreign nations. it's not the king cutting off trade with cuba, it's obama. now you can trade with overseas countries, your just not good at it. trading with overseas countries has worked out so good that millions of jobs have been outsourced and you're running trade deficit in the trillions.

"For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences"

pretend offences, there's no need to be transported overseas for that. millions of people in america have been tried for pretended offences; like marijuana laws, segregation laws, african americans in the south, prohibition, planting of evidence etc. you name an offence in america and the majority are pretend and passed under false pretences.

"He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people."

that's the definition of irony. theres a name for that, it's called american foreign policy.

"He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation."

now you're free to have your own army of mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny at home and abroad.

"He (is there anything the king hasn't done) has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions."

well, now it's not the king who excites domestic insurrections, its the media and self serving politicians. there is some sort of domestic insurrection every five minutes. there isn't one thing in america that people aren't complaining about. whining must be a national sport. to fair there are many, many problems that must be
addressed. well at least being free from the king, you took care of those pesky natives trying to protect their home, families and culture.

"In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury...."

one word-- the supreme court.

presidential election 2000. after the supreme court pretty much elected bush into office, how can anyone trust this office again as if it could ever be trusted anyways.

"A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people."

in this case replace "A Prince...", with " a president of the united states" and you pretty much sum up the state of america these days.

there you have it, the Declaration of Independence.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, and endowed by their creator with certain unalienalbe rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Is this whiny? No this is a fact of life. The declaration was saying that the King was treating people like crap, and that we deserved to be independent from tyrants.

Lazy? This is in reference to being called back and forth to England from the US you fool. Not down the road when it's raining. I'm not sure if you are aware, but during this period the fastest way to travel there was in a wooden boat driven by the wind. You have no idea what your talking about.

People are: Greedy, Selfish, Brutish, Judgemental and Self-Serving.
People are also: Courageous, Honorable and Self-Sacrificing

A group of people will contain both.

The OP is a broken record when it comes to this topic... All he does is bash America any way he can.

If I can give any advice it would be just ignore and move on he is just looking for reactions and he continues to make inflammatory comments and threads that deal with the above mentioned.

So, you pulled out a few charges against the king and somehow twist them into meaning that Americans are weak and lazy? Lets have a look at all of the charges, and why they were forced to draw up this Declaration.




Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures. Sounds reasonable to me.
Regardless of what you think or how you loosely interpret a few charges cherry picked and reworded the simple fact remains it is one of of the greatest documents ever written in the history of The United States of America.

How so? You make empty statements with nothing to back them up with. By your statement you obviously have an opinion on this, and I would like to know them. Yet I see you are so fond of your own place of residence that you do not bother to list it in your own profile. to over throw a king with arms is treason. but now you guys have embodied the worst traits of the king and are doing the exact same things, but on a global scale, that you have accused the king of over 200 years ago.

you've brought tyranny overseas to your own home. as usual the common citizens, including americans, and the world has pay for this lust of power and greed on a global scale.
