Apple rated worst multinational polluter in China

But among a list of 29 major companies that run facilities there, Apple turned out to be the worst overall, routinely evading inquiries from environmental groups about environmental pollution and other factory problems.

Mods: I did several searches looking for mention of this and if its been covered I apologize. Please delete if duplicated.

Its kind of ironic that Obama called upon China to clean up their pollution when multinational companies are the worst offenders. Yes, China should have kept the reigns on these companies but the companies themselves don't really care about anything but the bottom line. Photos of the polluted waters and lands of China are all over the internet and it seems to me that these giants see with their own eyes what they are doing to nature and to the people who have to live in this cesspool of slime. They just don't care.

We have enough regulations in the USA about pollutions to have every major industry move to China where not one regulation exists, pollute as much as you'd like basically.

Also a very useful fact, apple has the most recorded suicides per every hundred workers working in their plants, they've put barriers and safety nets to help this on going pandemic.

Between the slave labor, suicides, and now this pollution report, what happened to Apple?

They are like some evil corporation out of a cyberpunk novel.

I'd kill to see the face of all these lefties and hipsters after reading this from their Mac Books or iPads running Big Brother OS!

The US has been so weakened by liberal regulations that soon the Chinese will just walk in and take us over. Then the US will become even more polluted than China because China will move the most hazardous and polluting industries over here.
Since California is the closest it will be the first to go.

Good job libs!

What I find equally atrocious is our "addiction" to the products that come from Apple. Those of us who have Apple products are enablers. Boycotts do work and if "en masse" we decided that until Apple cleaned up their act we would not purchase another Apple product things would change. Let's face it. The Chinese citizens are not in a position to help themselves but those of us who buy from these companies are. We should do our part!

Come in and take over?

They will pollute themselves into a hole and rot.

These people will be getting cancers, abestos, mesothelioma,
all kinds of nasty things,

China will kill themselves off by poison,

I'll just add this to my list of all the other reasons I have to not use or buy Apple products.

Even their free quicktime is extremely overbearing the way it forces itself to run at startup, even if you only want to use it rarely like I would, so it's always consuming precious system resources even though I'm not using it most of the time (in fact I gave up on it years ago because of the start up system resource issues). I've learned to live without it, I use other media players that are better than quicktime, and I think my MP3 player has better sound quality than an iPod. Apples computers are cool looking but way overpriced compared to windows PCs, one theme of some Microsoft ads and though I've got plenty of complaints about MSFT also, I have to agree with advertising claim that Apple PCs are overpriced. What's worse is their proprietary nature.

Then there's the iPhone, which again displays the overly dominating nature of how Apple does business, gouging people with overpriced rates unless they "jailbreak" their phone so they can have a choice of carriers. (Which can get them in trouble with Apple's terms though it has been ruled legal).

The Need to Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone

A locked iPhone is a very boring device. It is also very expensive to maintain because you have to keep up with expensive monthly fees charged by an exclusive network carrier. That is why there is a need to jailbreak iPhone 3G to make it more exciting. You also have to unlock iPhone so you can freely choose a carrier that offers lower subscription rates.
But I also care about the environment so Apple really should clean up their act and become more environmentally responsible.

If you know something about their CEO's personality, you may understand why they may not be the most responsive company, he's a little bit arrogant.

Who cares if the company does horrible things?

Their product image is trendy and very "lib." It's like the safe alternative choice. That alone makes me want to sink thousands of dollars into their crap. Plus college freshman girls think their stuff is cool. Who doesnt love college freshman girls?

Exactly! When they're in their 50s and 60s. But the government knows that and wants them to die before they get too old so they aren't a burden on the socialist utopia.

This topic comes up all the time and this must be the third thread of its kind I have replied to.

The problem is CHINA - not APPLE!

Apple complies with chinese labour laws. Period! Its not apple hurting those workers, its thier own government who allows such conditions to exist for the sake of $$$$$. Get China to overhaul their labour laws and this problem goes away.

What's sad is how Foxconn had reacted to the suicides in their factories by announcing a %50 wage increase. Ok lets do the math, %50 of pennies is... well %50 of pennies... And the Apple reps speaking of how awesome their working conditions are and they have malls and this and that, all BS, show us soe pics of these so called luxurious slave labor camps. BS! iWant so iDon't care what goes on in some shady sweat shop as long as I get my iSheeple products. The ends justifies the means??

%50 wage increase... lol!

Apple the biggest polluter in China? That has got to be a typo or something? The company likes to portray themselves as progressive, green, a worthy friend of the people, and other cuddly monikers for a company that likes to sell themselves as a Teddy Bear instead of a corporate evil. I say the story misinformation and the publication releasing such nefarious information should be silenced and discredited. All sarcasm aside, I am not surprised by this latest report. China is being raped and pillaged as had been done in the past. Only this time large multi-national corporations are partaking in the raping and pillaging, whereas, in the centuries past it was the European powers, the US, and the Japanese in a direct role.

This time the Chinese government is not disorganized as was the case in the past, but are enabling the subjugation of their people, the deterioration of their environment, and the suppression of the people. Anything to make a buck, and to make the people believe that things are on the up and up and their rice bowl is full. Smoking mirrors. Only the chosen few are reaping the benefits of China's new found economic prowess, and either one is with the party or against it. If one suffers from the social ills of the latter, they get more than a slap on the wrist; but lengthy prison sentences or even death.

I doubt anyone is going to pay any mind to this story, because Apple is the new hip thing and counterculture technology. I can't envision the people with their matching environmentally friendly outfits, ear to the street on progressive issues, hybrid cars, carbon credits, and sugary coffee concoctions from Starbucks giving up their trusty IPod, IPad, and Mac this or that as a result of some misfortune for Chinese workers. Out of sight and out of mind. What goes on in China stays in China. Move along people nothing to see here.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with that. Apple KNOWS better. Just because Chinese law allows for blatant disregard for human life does not mean that its ok for Apple to kill Chinese citizens and despoil their environment for generations to come by their actions. Apple should have taken the moral high ground and done what was right, except they don't care.

Oh give me a break, Steve Jobs knows what is going on there.

Ok so if raping women is *legal* you still going to rape someone? Your sick!!!

Looks like Apple are just turning into a corporation that doesn't give a crap, like all the others? Or are there actually any that are ok? Who knows what Google will end up like. They start out with decent ideals, then turn into a boardroom full of suits trying to squeeze more and more profit, then they start getting really bad. Same old story.

Welcome to the real world. It happens every day. If you want to stop such things, like I do, we need to attack the root of the problem. Trimming the leaves only allows them to grow back again.

I knew they were bad but im surprised they were rated the worst...either way i have never bought an apple product...never really understood the fanaticism some people show towards the company and the ridiculously overpriced garbage they sell.
