Have you seen it? Have you seen the INSANITY? WOW, we are no longer allowed to use metaphors any longer in the US. We are not allowed to use descriptive speech. Oh no, it could cause someone to do something, it could cause HAVOC.

To begin, I give you the seven words not allowed by George Carlin (warning, this could cause you to destroy the world, plus it is morally imperative that you do not listen to it, graphic language)

Now that we got THAT out of the way!

Some new metaphors not to say-

Cross hairs, WOW, that just made me want to go out and use my Leopold scope!

Talk about insanity. Hey, didn't you idiots have a show called CROSSFIRE?

Oooops, John Stewart was on Crossfire, better ban him!

So folks, let us show the crazyness and insanity of the new censorship of WORDS.

I give you-

Crosshairs
Crossfire
Target
Political Enemies
Attack
Opponents
Rivals
Villains
Nazis
Blood Libel
Blah
Blah
Blah
Blah
Blah
Blah
Blah
and all words in between.

By the way, just add the words you want banned. But if you are on the left, you can still use them, because they are really not banned, this is just another way to quiet or denigrate your rivals.

Let the censorship begin!

We've become a nation of sniveling whining apologist weaklings. Im learning both Russian and maybe a little passable Mandarin. Hell, we have Putin with his shirt off beating up Crocs and Hu with more strength than our own president at our own press conference!

Im serious, we're weak as hell here and the world sees it.

Explain, you did not understand Blah Blah Blah? That is a metaphor for saying a bunch of nothing meaning nothing. Sorry, I forgot some people do not speak English as their first language.

My fault. When someone states that or states something like etc, etc, etc, it is an indication that one could go on but the explanation is just a bunch of blather or bloviation. Just something to fill the void.

Yeah, the US is ripe for the picking.

We are just a bunch of metrosexuals and ready to party!

Sorry, I just HAD TO!

Oh by the way, if I offended you, SO WHAT!

Seriously though, since when ws it acceptable to whine so much? Not just the US but ANYWHERE. I honestly think being perpetually offended over everything is a sickness. Its definitely a weakness, but for it to be like it is there has to be some weird psychological issue to be so offended over everything all the time in every circumstance. To apologize for having an opinion and voicing it is some new concept Im not too fond of. This group think crap has to stop.. its stunting good debate, conversation and freedom of expression.

I kind of think it all started when kids werent allowed to be losers. WHen everyone gets a trophy or a ribbon no matter how they perform. Its made everyone feel they are special little snowflakes and deserve absolute respect for every little feeling they have and screw you and your feelings. I dont know... something started this BS..

I count at least 12 actual words.

The thread title gave away the author immediately. Is there an actual argument of any kind to be proposed here or just more hyperbolic fantasy?

I am totally offended that you would describe political correctness as bloviation. Blatherscyte, or bollocks maybe, but bloviation is just taking things too far!

We must protect freedom of speech for those speaking the TRUTH (aka our perspective). Those crazy people out there have no business opening their mouths to posit anything, and it has to stop NOW!!

OOOOHHHH, you hit on another of my pet peaves.

Oh everyone is a winner. My God, do the people developing this idiocy realize the problems with that thesis?

If everyone is a winner, why even try than?

I discussed a problem ealier with my family also in this component. They all agreed on my thesis. I postulated that smaller families with only a few kids, do not learn sibling rivalry or competition. Now I developed this thesis because of a party I went to in college. I use to party with the professors. We had one professor that was whining because we were talking about sibling rivalry and implications from it. Me being the youngest of five brothers, has actually hardened me to real life and what is out there. I have excelled.

Funny thing was, this professor was complaining that we were going on about this like it was a rite of passage. I got myself a C due to what I said to him. I said he was an only child or was one of three kids. One being a sister and a younger brother. BINGO, he shut up and walked away. Worst grade I got in 4 years of college, hmmmm. Taught me to go to parties with professors. LOL. 3.8 GPA down to 3.26 in just ONE CLASS. Hmmm. ain't that spaycial.

Anyway, you been rocking on the site.

I just wanted to add to the thread. IF ANYONE uses this idea on the news without my authorization, I WILL SUE YOU. HEAR THAT!?

Yes, I got the idea from Carlin, but if you do not source me in the connection between Carlin and the recent metaphor restrictions. I WILL SUE.

Anyway, GREAT DISCUSSION!

edit to add- okay, this may have been a little or a lot narcissistic, but how many times has people's work here at ATS been used by others with NO SOURCING involved. MANY TIMES!

Oh you too dislike the little snowflake cant tell them they are wrong BS?? Well, hold on to your hat:

Get this.. when I had my oldest daughter in public school she was given "participation points". Now I check her homework and she has NO clue how to do geometry.. yet she gets a smiley. WTF.. a SMILEY for a grade? SO I go to the teacher and I say.. okay, she doesnt know how to do the work, I see all of the wrong answers, nothing is checked for being wrong and she gets a smiley... wtf kind of grade is a smiley. SHe tells me they gets 10 points for participation that adds to the goal of 50 points a week. They are not graded on right versus wrong answers.. JUST participation with class work. The tests are 1/3 of the grade. SO you can basically doodle on your class work, do the in class "projects" ( we're talking math here.. ) and flunk EVERY test and still pass.

Uhm,.. yeah, I pulled her out later for another issue and home school her. Before I could get her home school curriculum another incident happened.. but anyway... PARTICIPATION POINTS??

No wonder we're in the crapper as a country and our educational system is the most pathetic in the world...

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah is all I heard.

Do you have something to say or are you just here to bloviate?

What language are you using then? "Blah Blah Blah" is not a metaphor, especially how you have used it.

edit to add-since you are ATTEMPTING to question my anglayce, using THEN which designates a time frame instead of THAN which is comparitive, shows your blathering and bloviating to be exactly that!

Definition of metaphor-a figure of speech in which an expression is used to refer to something that it does not literally denote in order to suggest a similarity

WOW, so blah, blah, blah is NOT a metaphor. Hmmmm, you should probably ask for a refund for your education! OH WAIT, was it a public school?
No rebate for YOU! (think no Soup for YOU!-Seinfeld)

What is REALLY WEIRD, if you go to your posts and research what YOU comment on, it would seem that you have a what could be construed as a weird fetish about me. Are you cyber stalking me?

For your information, it is called artistic license, here you go- wikipedia

Artistic license (also known as dramatic license, historical license, poetic license, narrative license, licentia poetica, or simply license) is a colloquial term, sometime euphemism, used to denote the distortion of fact, alteration of the conventions of grammar or language, or rewording of pre-existing text made by an artist to improve a piece of art. An example of artistic license is if a visual artist decided it was more artistically desirable to portray St. Paul's Cathedral next to the Houses of Parliament in a scene of London even though in reality they are not close together.

By the way, to be artistic, you need VISION.

Really? Sue Glenn Beck then, it was his show tonight. So, probably taped a week or so ago, minus George Carlin. Everything else? Square on. My first thought was, "Oh, someone watched Glenn Beck today."

Sorry, I was a little miffed over the past year, either Beck is reading my thoughts (just kidding) or he is using common sense.

BUT, there has been several things I wrote about, several weeks beforehand that ended up on his show.

Sorry, I am claiming this one as my idea. Yes, it is putting two separate ideas from two separate people together, but unless someone else came up with it before me-edit to add it was me. YES, I watched that show. HE ROCKED.

It is mine. Okay, maybe a little narcissistic, but Obama is teaching me.

This late at night I really dont care who came up with what first... Im just talking on a message board.

I dont follow Beck very closely. The guy drives me up the wall... he has a lot of great points, but its the rest of the BS and his bawling that gets on my nerves.

You do not happen to know who is researchers are do you?

He has about 30 searching and scouring the web.

Hey, I do not mind that the researchers do what they do, but maybe they should actually source their material.

Hmmmm?

Yes, but over the last 3 months, he has been rocking.

I think he has hired some awesome researchers and has put together a hell of a team.

I usually watch his shows from a fan of his that puts the videos ad free on the net.

Sorry, but someone else already beat you to the Carlin video. I already saw someone post it in the comments to an article about the use of certain metaphors, imagery and rhetoric on a MSM news site about a week ago. I'm guessing it's been mentioned a bunch of times in this kind of context over the past 39+ years since Carlin first performed it. If I can find the article where the video was posted last week, I'll post a link to it for you.

It's always been one of my favorites of Carlin's. Hilarious. I used to do a radio show in the late 80's in college and all of us DJ's used to dare each other to play it on the air from his Class Clown album.

Yep, it was a great show. I liked how well he pointed it out that what's good for the goose is not good for the gander. If you watch the whole show, there are some stunning comments in there from the left.

I big loud, racist bang.

If you are a racist, you are probably a Republican.

Where are the black faces?

It's racist, it's armed, it's hostile.

It's the poor, or people of color, that we are afraid of.

If you have the solution, it's just the stupid people getting in the way.

This is why stepping on free speech is bad, who says what is bad? Right? Wrong? Ok? Not ok?

We all get it, don't shout FIRE in a theater, or say "bomb" in the airport, common sense is all it takes.

But bullet points?

"I have that target in my crosshairs, I am going to take tha opponent out!"

No one could possibly think, unless they were hunting or on a shooting range, that this could mean anything but metaphorically speaking. When you take these things out of context and attempt to push legislation to govern it, it becomes not just control of free speech, but thought control, as well.
